Best Celebrity Blogs! No, Perez Hilton Doesn’t Make the List.

I’m an avid blog reader. There are a few blogs I check on every day, but mostly I just click around from the different links they post and see what’s out there. Believe it or not there are a few really good blogs run and/or created by well-known celebrities. I love reading about celebrities and looking at gossip sites (no shame!) but it’s interesting to see a completely different, and more personal, side to them through their blogs.

In my opinion, these are a handful of the best blogs created/run by celebrities. Continue reading

Trending: Stripes!

Trend

People might be intimidated by wearing striped tops, jeans, dresses, etc. Stripes have the reputation of making you look wider than you truly are. However, according to a style report on TLC, “A perception expert at the University of York in the U.K. found that when two women of the same size wore horizontally and vertically striped dresses, the woman wearing the horizontal stripes appeared thinner. These experiments were based on the Helmholtz square illusion, first created in the eighteenth century, and suggest that horizontal stripes may help slim the figure by creating a 3D effect and introducing depth.”

Check out a few easy ways to look great and feel confident wearing stripes! Continue reading

Summer-Ready Hairstyles You Have to Try!

The weather is starting to heat up outside which only means one thing: frizz. I tend to think my hair is naturally frizzy and always looking like a mess, so summertime makes it worse. Unfortunately, I wasn’t blessed with the skills of doing awesome up-dos and other effortless hairstyles that my sister, of course, has a knack for.

Now that frizzy-hair weather is about to be in full swing, it’s time to start thinking about hairstyles that are easy, quick and versatile. Here are three of my favorite summer-ready hairstyles every girl needs to try! Continue reading

How To Not Look like a Tourist in the Rain

Rain, rain go away come again while I’m on vacation in the Bahamas. Rain sucks. Unless you’re trying to sleep or overindulge in carbs (guilty!), then it’s the perfect motivation. The sidewalks in the city become filled with slow-walking, umbrella-carrying, rain-boot-wearing, frizzy-hair-having pedestrians that all have the same grimace as the horizontal rain sprinkles onto their faces, making their umbrellas mostly useless.

Food

I was near the Meatpacking District meeting some friends for a lazy Sunday carb-loading Italian dinner (check out the tiramisu above) while checking out everyone’s drizzle style and taking creeper shots. The rain stayed at a consistent drizzle/fuzzy sprinkle all day so people were dressed across the board. I caught some overly prepared tourists walking around in their candy colored PVC ponchos who looked like they were ready for a monsoon, and locals who were mostly dressed in light hooded jackets, hats or completely unprepared as if it was just another sunny day. I met a group of friends all with their individual styles to combat the elements.

Dresses, Dresses and More Dresses!

Torn by Ronny Kobo

I love bows, tutus, tulle, heels, flowy silhouettes and everything else that sounds super girly. The only problem? I hate dresses. Well, let’s clarify: I hate wearing dresses but I love the idea of them. I’m the type of girl who literally wears jeans and a tee every day. It’s just comfortable and easy, which dresses, to me, are not. However, when I first saw the Torn by Ronny Kobo dresses that came in yesterday I instantly fell in love. Continue reading

Always Travel in Style

Flowers

I took a trip back to the South for Mother’s Day weekend to surprise my mom. She’s impossible to shop for, so being the narcissist I am, I thought I was the best present to show up on her doorstep. No one knew I was visiting, so when I showed up with a bouquet of flowers (above) and walked through the front door at dinnertime everyone was thrilled. I was relieved that she was so happy to see me because I figured I would either be welcomed with excitement or scolded for being so good at lying for a month about the planned trip and sneaking down the East Coast. Hey Mom, Treat Yourself for Mother’s Day!

Mother's DayOne of the toughest jobs in the world is to be a mother. It’s nice to have one day a year that’s guaranteed to appreciate all the hard work and effort mom’s everywhere have to deal with on a daily basis. It would be nice if there were two, three…or four days dedicated to it! But we’re just saying.

Obviously since it’s Mother’s Day you will receive gifts from your children saying how much they love you and that you are the best mom in the whole world. And while you may cherish and look forward to opening these precious gifts that may possibly get stowed away somewhere, eaten (you can’t resist those chocolates) or die (I’m talking about flowers!), you should treat yourself. Yes, that’s right. We want you to buy yourself something this Mother’s Day! Continue reading

Top 10 Looks from Last Night’s Met Gala

All the top names in fashion gathered together last night at the 2013 Met Gala. The theme this year was Punk: Chaos to Couture. Not my first choice but definitely interesting. I was looking forward to seeing everyone’s different perception of what punk is and how extreme some would go. Sarah Jessica Parker, for instance, wore a full-on mohawk headpiece while Kim Kardashian opted for a floral turtleneck dress complete with matching gloves and shoes.

I was expecting to see studs, leather, black and everything else considered punk. There was definitely all of those aspects and some celebrities seemed to nail the theme a bit better than others. On that note, here are my top ten picks for best Met Gala looks! Continue reading

It’s a Jungle Out There

You can never go wrong with animals prints. Season after season animal is in. And what better way to appreciate nature and not upset PETA than to incorporate the prints and patterns of the wild into our wardrobes? Cheetah prints make us feel feminine and fierce like the feline of the jungle…or Savannah or wherever it is that cheetah’s hangout. While snake and python prints make us feel sleek and seductive like the slithery, stealthy reptiles. Zebra prints are bold, exotic and eye catching. We wear these prints not only for the appreciation of color or shape but for what the animals themselves exemplifies and we secretly wish we were like ourselves.

New York CityIf I were an animal I’d want to be a panther or any exotic big cat. I say panther because even in animal form I like to be dressed in black from head to toe. Panthers are strong, graceful and mysterious. They’re basically the animal version of what the ideal Bond girl is. And a Bond girl is the epitome of sexy, powerful, and feminine. FYI the panther is not an actual separate species of cat. A panther just refers to a large cat species that has excessive black pigment so you cant actually see their spots without close observation. There’s your daily dose of Zoboomafoo fun facts for those of you who still remember that show.

In the spirit of the of the persistent – and one of my favorite – trends I went to SoHo to see what animals the street stylers would be themselves. Continue reading

Must-Have Items for When the Sun Starts Shining

We’ve gone through some roller coaster-style weather here in New York this past year. Rain storms, tons of snow, Hurricane Sandy and too many gray days left me begging for spring time. Our first couple weeks of spring wasn’t all that great honestly. It was kinda grey and chilly, but now the sun is shining and the flowers are starting to bloom lining the sidewalks with vibrant colors.

Now that warm spring weather is in full effect, I find the sleeves on my tops are slowly inching up towards my shoulders. And although I love wearing boots, I love when it comes time to ditch them for half the year and switch to flats and sandals. When I think of spring my mind goes straight to light-wash denim, slouchy tops and lightweight sweaters. On that note, here are a few of my must-have items that no wardrobe should be without! In My World it’s Better to be Sorry than Safe

Better safe than sorry?  I’d rather take risks and live to tell the story. Although I do feel safer knowing that Spider-Man is protecting the streets here in NYC…

SpidermanYou know when you do something stupid, intentionally, thinking it’s a brilliant idea at the time – only to turn around and realize how terrible of a decision it was. Take today for example. On the way to the gym, a good friend and I were about to go through the subway turnstile when she realized she forgot her card at home. So our brilliant minds decided to get close and go through as one person. So we swiped the card, pushed through and made it to the other side (success!)…right in front of two police officers…LOL! Turns out that’s illegal (who knew?) and it’s a $100 fine per person. Luckily they were nice enough to let us go with a warning, but in retrospect we probably should’ve checked to see that there weren’t cops around…or…errh…I mean we should’ve been good citizens and not have tried to cheat the system? Yea – that one.

This little incident had me thinking about all my style choices in the past that now, in retrospect, I realize were horribly misguided but made for great laughs.  Continue reading
