Reactions to Last Night’s Oscar Awards!

After months of anticipation, the Oscars finally aired last night, hosted by Seth MacFarlane. The show altogether was a bit, um, odd and drawn out. Some of Seth’s jokes were funny and some a little offensive. Obviously, he took jabs at Hollywood as any host would do.

This year the Oscars celebrated music in the movies we love. It was the tenth anniversary of the film Chicago and Catherine Zeta-Jones lip-synced (not confirmed, but obvious) her performance of “All That Jazz”. Jennifer Hudson got a standing ovation from the crowd of A-listers after her beautiful and heartfelt performance from Dreamgirls. (more…)

Rachel’s Radar: Spring Cleaning!

Luckily, spring is almost upon us! Spring cleaning is my favorite thing to do when the weather starts to warm up. It feels great to empty out my closet and organize myself, which makes me feel lighter all around. Plus, cleaning out my closet means more room for new clothes, and who doesn’t want that?!

One of my go-to spring essentials is always a fresh white V-neck tee by Monrow. It’s easy for whites to turn yellow from season to season and nothing feels dirtier to me than a slightly yellow tee that’s meant to be white. Make sure to stock your closets with plenty of white tees that you can easily grab in a hurry to match any outfit. (more…)

The Stages of Love – Part Two

Stage 2: We Just Met, But I Think I’m in Love

The first stage of all (if not, most…I hope) is infatuation. Ladies, you all know when you first meet someone and you really hit it off, you’re totally smitten. “Oh my gosh, you won’t believe where we went on our first date.” “I know we just met but I can really see this going somewhere.”  “We’re soul mates.”  (more…)

The Stages of Love – Part One

Valentine’s Day can be tricky if you are not in a relationship.  Not because it has to be, but because we tend to make it that way.  You know, it’s that day that you are supposed to be focused on love and relationship – as if you don’t have to think about it any other time. The way you decide to celebrate is definitely influenced by what stage you are at in your relationship… if you are in one at all.  Even if you are not currently in a relationship you can still go out and have a great time.  In this post I am going to share some ideas for Stages 1 of Love.

A Recent Obsession – Icona Pop

Ever since I saw the Girls episode “Bad Friend” in which Hannah will do anything to get interesting material for her new freelance job, I was knew this song would be stuck in my head for a while. Take a listen below to “I Love It” by Icona Pop, a Swedish synthpop duo.

For those of you who watch Girls, you know exactly what scene I’m referring to, and if you don’t watch Girls, well, you should. Hannah and Elijah go crazy at a rave at nightclub Greenhouse where they end up dancing and screaming to the song “I Love It.” This song is just so much fun and I think it’s definitely going to make its mark.

My Favorite Highlights from the Beyoncé Bowl…I Mean Super Bowl

Super Bowl

Although every single person at the Super Bowl party I attended hated Beyoncé’s half time performance, I was speechless. Granted, she might not have sang very much, but she is an amazing performer. In my opinion, Beyoncé definitely stole the show and as always…haters gonna hate.

Here are a few of my favorite moments from last night’s Super Bowl. Oh and if you cared about the actual game, the Ravens beat the 49ers with a final score of 34-31. (more…)

Brittany McDonald’s “Notice Me” Sends a Powerful Message to All

Songwriter

Growing up in Orange County, Brittany McDonald knew she had a passion for music before she could even talk. Taking inspiration from Gwen Stefani’s confidence and stance on societal views of women, Brittany realized her true mission was to change the way people think through her songs.

Graduating from the University of Southern California with a degree in psychology, Brittany packed her bags and headed to Nashville, TN. Her first few songs gained a lot of attention from music industry big shots calling her music too opinionated and edgy to fit in with other country music produced by females. On that note, moving back to Southern California, Brittany poured her soul into her newest single Notice Me.

Notice Me grabbed the attention of Ariana Huffington, who personally gave Brittany her own blog on the Huffington Post. We sat down with Brittany to ask her questions as to what motivated her to write a song with such a powerful message, especially for the society we live in today. (more…)
