The weather is starting to heat up outside which only means one thing: frizz. I tend to think my hair is naturally frizzy and always looking like a mess, so summertime makes it worse. Unfortunately, I wasn’t blessed with the skills of doing awesome up-dos and other effortless hairstyles that my sister, of course, has a knack for.

I love bows, tutus, tulle, heels, flowy silhouettes and everything else that sounds super girly. The only problem? I hate dresses. Well, let’s clarify: I hate wearing dresses but I love the idea of them. I’m the type of girl who literally wears jeans and a tee every day. Top 10 Looks from Last Night’s Met Gala

All the top names in fashion gathered together last night at the 2013 Met Gala. The theme this year was Punk: Chaos to Couture. Not my first choice but definitely interesting. I was looking forward to seeing everyone’s different perception of what punk is and how extreme some would go. Sarah Jessica Parker, for instance, wore a full-on mohawk headpiece while Kim Kardashian opted for a floral turtleneck dress complete with matching gloves and shoes.

I was expecting to see studs, leather, black and everything else considered punk. There was definitely all of those aspects and some celebrities seemed to nail the theme a bit better than others. On that note, here are my top ten picks for best Met Gala looks! (more…)

Must-Have Items for When the Sun Starts Shining

We’ve gone through some roller coaster-style weather here in New York this past year. Rain storms, tons of snow, Hurricane Sandy and too many gray days left me begging for spring time. Our first couple weeks of spring wasn’t all that great honestly. It was kinda grey and chilly, but now the sun is shining and the flowers are starting to bloom lining the sidewalks with vibrant colors.

Now that warm spring weather is in full effect, I find the sleeves on my tops are slowly inching up towards my shoulders. And although I love wearing boots, I love when it comes time to ditch them for half the year and switch to flats and sandals. When I think of spring my mind goes straight to light-wash denim, slouchy tops and lightweight sweaters. On that note, here are a few of my must-have items that no wardrobe should be without! Baked by MelissaBaked by Melissa. Three words that can grab my attention in less than a second. I’m a huge cupcake lover and what can be better than mini cupcakes with wacky, but oh-so-yummy flavors? If you have never experienced the euphoria of Baked by Melissa, then you need to re-evaluate every decision you’ve made about cupcakes…and life (just kidding, kind of).

Aside from cupcakes (and every other morsel of food) I love shopping, I mean, what girl doesn’t? Let’s be serious. Complete Your St. Patrick’s Day Ensemble with Your Nails!

I can’t think of another holiday (besides Halloween) where people go all out dressing up for the occasion. Whenever I hear people talking about St. Patrick’s Day, images of green, glitter, gold and beer enter my mind. I don’t personally partake in the festivities that surround this holiday, but one person in my family does, and that would be my sister.

She goes on a hunt to find the perfect outfit weeks before St. Patrick’s Day. Side-note: I find this funny because we don’t have a drop of Irish blood in our family. I’m not sure why it’s a holiday where people decide to dress up, but if it makes you happy then go for it! If you’re going all out dressing up in a green-colored, cute and girly outfit then you can’t forget to paint your nails accordingly. Nothing would ruin your outfit more (besides spilling beer all over yourself) if your nails were clashing with this festive day.

Reactions to Last Night’s Oscar Awards!

After months of anticipation, the Oscars finally aired last night, hosted by Seth MacFarlane. The show altogether was a bit, um, odd and drawn out. Some of Seth’s jokes were funny and some a little offensive. Obviously, he took jabs at Hollywood as any host would do.

This year the Oscars celebrated music in the movies we love. It was the tenth anniversary of the film Chicago and Catherine Zeta-Jones lip-synced (not confirmed, but obvious) her performance of “All That Jazz”. Jennifer Hudson got a standing ovation from the crowd of A-listers after her beautiful and heartfelt performance from Dreamgirls. (more…)

A Recent Obsession – Icona Pop

Ever since I saw the Girls episode “Bad Friend” in which Hannah will do anything to get interesting material for her new freelance job, I was knew this song would be stuck in my head for a while. Take a listen below to “I Love It” by Icona Pop, a Swedish synthpop duo.

For those of you who watch Girls, you know exactly what scene I’m referring to, and if you don’t watch Girls, well, you should. Hannah and Elijah go crazy at a rave at nightclub Greenhouse where they end up dancing and screaming to the song “I Love It.” This song is just so much fun and I think it’s definitely going to make its mark.

My Favorite Highlights from the Beyoncé Bowl…I Mean Super Bowl

Super Bowl

Although every single person at the Super Bowl party I attended hated Beyoncé’s half time performance, I was speechless. Granted, she might not have sang very much, but she is an amazing performer. In my opinion, Beyoncé definitely stole the show and as always…haters gonna hate.

Here are a few of my favorite moments from last night’s Super Bowl. Oh and if you cared about the actual game, the Ravens beat the 49ers with a final score of 34-31. (more…)

Transform Your Nails into Liquid Gold!

I’m always looking for new ways to paint my nails since I get really bored having one solid color. I’ve tried the water marbling technique, which is super cool and looks awesome if you do it correctly but it’s kind of messy and time consuming.

After searching YouTube, I came across this short and simple tutorial by Pixie Polish on how to marble your nails using a needle (you can also use a safety pin or toothpick). Let me just say, I would love to hire the extremely talented girl behind this tutorial because I took a look at her other videos…oh my gosh. If you have the art skills, which unfortunately I don’t, I suggest checking out the rest of her tutorials for amazing, envy-worthy nails!

The cool thing about this technique is that you can use any color combination you can think of. I am definitely going to try this over the weekend. It would look really pretty with bright colors for summer. The possibilities are endless!
