Summer-Ready Hairstyles You Have to Try!

The weather is starting to heat up outside which only means one thing: frizz. I tend to think my hair is naturally frizzy and always looking like a mess, so summertime makes it worse. Unfortunately, I wasn’t blessed with the skills of doing awesome up-dos and other effortless hairstyles that my sister, of course, has a knack for.

Now that frizzy-hair weather is about to be in full swing, it’s time to start thinking about hairstyles that are easy, quick and versatile. Here are three of my favorite summer-ready hairstyles every girl needs to try!

Beach Waves

I’ve always been envious of girls with natural beach waves, especially Blake Lively. Her golden locks are the epitome of flawless hair. I always find that after a day at the beach or even the pool, my hair looks great. It’s the perfect amount of messy combined with simple waves. The downside? It doesn’t last for long considering I have to shower off the beach/pool and my effortless hairstyle.

Bumble and bumble.

Since I know my hair works well after a day swimming in salt water, I have been on a mission to find a product that recreates beach waves without going to the actual beach. I’ve tried tons of products that claim to give you beach hair, but unfortunately I was left with a stringy mess that definitely didn’t look mermaid-esque.

I’ve been dying to try Bumble and bumble Surf Spray because I heard it’s the best but I never wanted to spend money being in college and on a budget. However, I finally decided to try it out and I’m kind of amazed at how well it works. Plus, it’s really easy. All you have to do is spray it on damp or dry hair and let it dry naturally or use a diffuser. So far I’ve found it doesn’t dry out my either, which is always a plus!

Summer Hair

The fishtail braid is one of the prettiest and versatile hairstyles a girl can do. They look hard to create but they really aren’t! It’ll look like you spent so much time on your hair when it really only took a couple of minutes. You can do so many things with a fishtail braid, too. Wear it low to the side with pulled out pieces, add in ribbons, transform a sleek high ponytail into a fishtail braid, etc.

One of my favorite beauty blogs The Beauty Department has a great tutorial on how to create a simple fishtail braid. Once you learn how to do it, try experimenting with different fishtail styles.

Messy Bun

The messy bun is probably my go-to summer hairstyle…and winter hairstyle. It’s so easy and literally takes no crazy skills to perfect. I hate when my hair gets in my face or blows around in the wind so I like to keep it up for the most part. Plus, I think messy buns are cute in a way. For my messy buns, I literally just throw all my hair into a scrunchie and wrap it up. Done.

If you’re going out at night and a messy bun is too relaxed then go for the ultimate sock bun. You will get so many compliments on this hairstyle and again, you don’t need any skills to create it! I like to use a foam doughnut-type bun (pictured above) in place of an actual sock because it’s a lot lighter on your head and stays in place better. For a foam doughnut, check out any of your local beauty supply shops.
