Going to Coachella? Make Sure to Pack Your Best Attire – Here’s Why:

CoachellaEvery major music festival has a “type.” What we mean: you won’t see someone jumping up and down in a florescent tutu, fringe bikini top and plastic sunglasses at any other music festival than Electric Daisy Carnival (EDC)…and maybe Ultra. Coachella, however, falls on the other end of the festival spectrum. You can express your style in a more peaceful and laid back manner. If you’re into street style, boho-chic and flower crowns then keep on reading. (more…)

Studio Sounds: Childish Gambino – Heartbeat

[youtube

Our Creative Marketing/Video Producer, Korey, sent over this week’s studio sound by Donald Glover who performs as his alter-ego rapper Childish Gambino. Why the name Childish Gambino? Glover discovered it from an online Wu-Tang Clan name generator. “There’s no difference between Donald Glover and Childish Gambino – they’re the same. I just want people to come at my music differently…” he says of the name. (more…)

Studio Sounds: Phosphorescent – Song for Zula

[youtube

The latest tune heard in the studio is “Song for Zula” by the band Phosphorescent. Originally from Alabama, Matthew Houck, singer/composer of Phosphorescent, started recording and performing alternative/indie rock music in Athens, Georgia in the early 2000s.

After international touring,  his most recent album, Muchacho, received numerous amounts of praise from critics and fans. “Phosphorescent is a Brooklyn band that hasn’t forgotten its Southern pedigree, creating washy psychedelia with a foothold in country-rock,” states the New York Times.

A Recent Obsession – Icona Pop

Ever since I saw the Girls episode “Bad Friend” in which Hannah will do anything to get interesting material for her new freelance job, I was knew this song would be stuck in my head for a while. Take a listen below to “I Love It” by Icona Pop, a Swedish synthpop duo.

For those of you who watch Girls, you know exactly what scene I’m referring to, and if you don’t watch Girls, well, you should. Hannah and Elijah go crazy at a rave at nightclub Greenhouse where they end up dancing and screaming to the song “I Love It.” This song is just so much fun and I think it’s definitely going to make its mark.

Brittany McDonald’s “Notice Me” Sends a Powerful Message to All

Songwriter

Growing up in Orange County, Brittany McDonald knew she had a passion for music before she could even talk. Taking inspiration from Gwen Stefani’s confidence and stance on societal views of women, Brittany realized her true mission was to change the way people think through her songs.

Graduating from the University of Southern California with a degree in psychology, Brittany packed her bags and headed to Nashville, TN. Her first few songs gained a lot of attention from music industry big shots calling her music too opinionated and edgy to fit in with other country music produced by females. On that note, moving back to Southern California, Brittany poured her soul into her newest single Notice Me.

Notice Me grabbed the attention of Ariana Huffington, who personally gave Brittany her own blog on the Huffington Post. We sat down with Brittany to ask her questions as to what motivated her to write a song with such a powerful message, especially for the society we live in today. (more…)

United States of Pop 2012 – “Shine Brighter”

Every year DJ Earworm releases a mashup in his series “United States of Pop,” which began in 2007. This year’s mashup is called “Shine Brighter” and consists of the top 25 songs based on Billboard rankings.

This year’s mashup is definitely cool, but in previous years they have sounded much better. Maybe the selection of songs didn’t fit as well together than the one’s previously? Kesha’s “Die Young” is the major backing track.

What do you think of this year’s mashup?
