Our Creative Marketing/Video Producer, Korey, sent over this week’s studio sound by Donald Glover who performs as his alter-ego rapper Childish Gambino. Why the name Childish Gambino? Glover discovered it from an online Wu-Tang Clan name generator. “There’s no difference between Donald Glover and Childish Gambino – they’re the same. I just want people to come at my music differently…” he says of the name. (more…)
The latest tune heard in the studio is “Song for Zula” by the band Phosphorescent. Originally from Alabama, Matthew Houck, singer/composer of Phosphorescent, started recording and performing alternative/indie rock music in Athens, Georgia in the early 2000s.
After international touring, his most recent album, Muchacho, received numerous amounts of praise from critics and fans. “Phosphorescent is a Brooklyn band that hasn’t forgotten its Southern pedigree, creating washy psychedelia with a foothold in country-rock,” states the New York Times.

Every year DJ Earworm releases a mashup in his series “United States of Pop,” which began in 2007. This year’s mashup is called “Shine Brighter” and consists of the top 25 songs based on Billboard rankings.
This year’s mashup is definitely cool, but in previous years they have sounded much better. Maybe the selection of songs didn’t fit as well together than the one’s previously? Kesha’s “Die Young” is the major backing track.
