Must-Have Items for When the Sun Starts Shining

We’ve gone through some roller coaster-style weather here in New York this past year. Rain storms, tons of snow, Hurricane Sandy and too many gray days left me begging for spring time. Our first couple weeks of spring wasn’t all that great honestly. It was kinda grey and chilly, but now the sun is shining and the flowers are starting to bloom lining the sidewalks with vibrant colors.

Now that warm spring weather is in full effect, I find the sleeves on my tops are slowly inching up towards my shoulders. And although I love wearing boots, I love when it comes time to ditch them for half the year and switch to flats and sandals. When I think of spring my mind goes straight to light-wash denim, slouchy tops and lightweight sweaters. On that note, here are a few of my must-have items that no wardrobe should be without!

Rag & BoneI try to reserve most of my light-wash denim for the spring and summer because I feel awkward wearing it in the winter. Lately I’ve been into any type of jean that has some sort of shredded aspect. A part of me always feels guilty buying shredded jeans because I think back to my dad saying, “You paid how much for those when you can do it yourself?!” And while a quarter of the time I do agree, I get over it rather quickly and end up buying them.

One pair of denim shorts I seriously cannot stop thinking about are the J Brand Nash Ripped Boyfriend. I’m not really a fan of short shorts or cut offs so I tend to stick more with a boyfriend fit. Well, these boyfriend’s are unlike any other! They come in two washes (blue and white) and have a completely shredded lower hem that adds an effortless and stylish look. Tons of bloggers like Aimee Song and celebrities like Jessica Alba love these!

SpringI hate fitted silhouettes…especially when it’s warm/hot outside. The thought of wearing something in the heat all day that fits super close to my body makes my face scrunch. So I opt for slouchy and relaxed silhouettes with a light fabric like chiffon or cotton. It’s a necessity to own a loose-fitting tee that you can grab on the go and that’s why I’m in love with this Current/Elliott leopard tee. It’s a bit more fun than a solid tee and it adds a print to any outfit.

SweatersI’m kind of obsessed with sweaters. I just find them easy and comfortable so what’s not to like? Lightweight sweaters are a must for spring since it still gets chilly but it’s too warm for heavy-duty winter sweaters (obviously). Minnie Rose makes these light cashmere sweaters that have a boxy/slouchy body. They are amazing for throwing on if it’s chilly or just for lounging around or running errands since they are comfy.
