Rachel’s Radar: Trends for Spring!

Spring TrendsSpring 2013 is being referred to as a “balancing act” according to Leatrice Eiseman, executive director of the Pantone Color Institute. She says, “…we look for balance between light and bright, classic and new. This season’s color palette emphasizes this need for balance, while at the same time allowing for individuality, self-expression and excitement.”

Take a look at the four trends I’m most excited about for spring!

1. Black and White

Normally, spring trends make you automatically think of pastel colors and floral prints. However, this season many designers opted to emphasize strong black and white looks (there still were some floral parties going on.) Black and white works year round and for any occasion. It’s appropriate to wear to the office, date nights, and is the definition of what I like to call “wearable.”

2. Luxe Leather “Love Leather Forever”

Leather Skirts The perfect item to where anywhere at any time is go-to leather. This season, I’m loving high-waisted mini leather skirts since they are the perfect flirty item to incorporate into your wardrobe. Vince makes a great leather skirt and LOVE LEATHER has a pretty camel-color leather skirt, which is also super chic in case you are looking for a lighter color to match to those spring colors.

Leather SkirtIf you have legs you wish to show off, then fear not! Leather surf shorts are all the rage. Rory Beca makes the perfect pair of shorts. In one of my last posts, I mentioned that a leather jacket is a perfect investment item that you will keep in your closet from season to season. So hurry and go buy one if you haven’t already!

3. Beautiful Embellishments

Embellishments

After seeing so much brocade and fur this winter, it was no surprise to see a little dazzle on the spring runways. You could see influences from India and the Middle East to Russia, and it made for some amazing evening-wear. With that said, if you are still rocking the sequins, push them aside and bring anything with beaded detail to the front of your closets. Think “chic without the shimmery shine.”

4. Peak-a-boo Pieces “Show Some Skin”

Dresses

Speaking of the perfect date night option, you will have no trouble finding something sexy to wear. Cut outs, midriff-baring separates and sheer fabrics were seen all over the runway. The best part of this trend is that you can find a peek-a-boo option for almost every body shape.

I love dresses from Style Stalker to LNA tees. Every designer is doing the “show some skin” design. Don’t be shy this spring!
