Singer22 Counts Down the 10.5 Most Memorable Moments in Fashion

We cannot get over how quickly 2010 has come and gone! It seems like yesterday it was January 1, 2010! The year sure had some eye-catching headlines: the iPhone 4, the iPad, the Gulf Oil Disaster, politics and the economy, the earthquake in Haiti, and so much more! I can go on and on about what happened in 2010, but I decided to go for a more lighthearted approach. Let's count down the top 10 memorable moments in fashion! 10. Singer22 Holiday Party – On December 3, Singer22 hosted their 1st annual Holiday Shopping Party. Our lovely hosts? E! News Catt Sadler and The Hills star Stephanie Pratt! They donned lovely dresses you can buy from Singer 22 (Catt in Alice + Olivia Goddess Dress and Alice+Olivia Gretchen Dress). Everyone gathered for the lovely holiday party, including the amazing Singer22 staff, the owners Jon and Alicia, and even designer Michelle Siwy! Everyone enjoyed the sweets, drinks, and, of course, the shopping! This party was all the rage and everyone was satisfied with their fashion finds, even Catt came back for more Singer22 fashion here. 9. Kristen Stewart and her Chanel Dress – Is it just me or did Twilight cutie Kristen Stewart receive a lot of backlash for her couture Chanel gown to the Met Ball in NYC? She showed up in a gothic-like gown with a sheer leg. In my opinion, I think she made a step forward to being more "fashion conscious." Oh, and aren't "couture fashions" supposed to be unique and statement-worthy? Either way, Miss Stewart worked that Red Carpet, ignored the scrutiny, and continued dressing like a glamour girl! 8. Nicki Minaj at the American Music Awards – a newcomer to the "Outrageous Fashion Club," R&B/Hip Hop Singer Nicki Minaj wore an outrageously bright outfit to this year's American Music Awards. Gold, pink, green, yellow, teal – all over the place! Even her hair was absolutely out-there – check out the green-dyed tips! But, according to MTV, her dress was symbolic of her new album "Pink Friday" because it is so weird and something you can pick out of place. Now, I am not one for outrageous fashion like this, but I love the symbolic meaning to it! I wonder what she will be up to in 2011? 7. Katy Perry at the MTV Movie Awards – So, another tribute to a unique fashionista! Katy Perry has had a wonderful year – new album, top hits, engagement and marriage to Russell Brand, and making the Singer22 headline news in fashion! She is also one of the few celebrities who stand out in their out-of-this-world fashion. She made her statement on the Red Carpet at the MTV Movie Awards back in June. She wore a sheer, nude sequin dress with minimal makeup BUT sported a yellow manicure and a blue wig (oh, and she showed off her lovely engagement ring!). Now, this California girl knows how to wear a sequin dress! For me, this look definitely works for Mrs. Brand! 6.5. Katy Perry's Wedding – Ms. Perry and Russell Brand tied the knot in October and she had a variety of fashion for her special day. Yes, you can purchase these items from Singer22! Katy wore a number of Donna Mizani dresses during her time in India. While a Lebanese fashion designer created her actual wedding dress, Katy wore her favorite pieces from Donna Mizani: Dress in Almond, Dress in Hot Coral, Mini Bustier Dress in Black, One-Shoulder Dress, and the One-Shoulder Cut-Out Dress. Some of these styles may be out of stock, but that does not mean you cannot get your Donna Mizani dress! Go ahead and stock up! 6. Fashion Week 2010 and Fashion's Night Out – The biggest fashion event of the year takes our number 6 spot! Hundreds of designers and labels show off their latest collections to the public and media. Oh, and did I mention hundreds of retailers took part in the activities? Many department stores had their own fashion show or had a "Fashion Week" limited edition sale. Boutiques designed their own "Fashion Week" memorabilia. Independent fashion designers hosted their own mini fashion shows and collaborated with other stores. Oh, and Fashion's Night Out was a success as well! Thousands of people supported the retail and fashion industries, as well as supporting their favorite charitable organizations! Singer22 joined in the fun as well – we hosted an FNO event with Kristin Cavallari and had a shirt made! 5. Sarah Jessica Parker + Halston Heritage – Stylish mama and actress Sarah Jessica Parker took over as Creative Adviser for Halston Heritage. She made her mark in fashion on Sex and the City, and has been making ladies green with envy with her designer duds. She wore some Halston Heritage in the SATC2 movie, including the Deep V Cocktail Dress and the Pleated Cocktail Dress. 4. Fashion Designers Collaborations – It is the year of "luxury fashion gone affordable!" William Rast, Mulberry, McQ Alexander McQueen, Dolce Vita, Jean Paul Gaultier, Zac Posen, Stella McCartney and more created a line just for Target! The collection was still in the labels' style but the prices were outrageous! Consumers had the opportunity to purchase their dream designer-labeled dress or handbag for a decent price. 3. Michelle Obama's Fashion Do's – In my opinion, First Lady Michelle Obama is this year's modern Jackie O.! She traveled the world and made appearances with lovely designer frocks. Mrs. Obama kicked of 2010 with a new haircut and continued to go through 2010 with Narciso Rodriguez, Alexander McQueen, Jason Wu, Thakoon, and Talbots. I am in love with her modern, crisp and clean look! 2. Lady Gaga Meat Dress – WHAT!? The Lady Gaga Meat Dress is number 2?! I know! I know! At the MTV Video Music Awards, Lady Gaga wore a raw meat dress on the Red Carpet. Her statement-worthy dress made headlines and, of course, PETA had something to say about her fashion choice. But, according to Gaga, her dress represented human kind: "However, it has many interpretations but for me this evening. If we don't stand up for what we believe in and if we don't fight for our rights, pretty soon we're going to have as much rights as the meat on our own bones. And, I am not a piece of meat." Another fashion icon whose controversial outfit has a significant meaning! 1. Death of Alexander McQueen – I think the fashion news of 2010 that shocked me the most was the death of British designer, Alexander McQueen. I absolutely love his innovative fashions and celebrities around the world adored him. His pieces are unique and represented his love for the theater and costumes. Each person who wore an Alexander McQueen felt glamorous and fashion-forward! Some of his famous fans include Lady Gaga, Camilla Bella, Sarah Jessica Parker, Anna Wintour, and Naomi Campbell. I thank Mr. McQueen for showing the world that fashion does not have to be plain and simple to succeed – show off your creative juices and, in the end, it will pay off! So, these are my top 10 picks for fashion in 2010. What do you think? What are your picks for memorable fashion news?
