I’m constantly on the hunt for easy and cute nail art ideas. Keyword being easy. I honestly can’t stand having a solid-colored manicure because I get bored of it in less than a day and everyone else has the same thing. Trending: Stripes!

People might be intimidated by wearing striped tops, jeans, dresses, etc. Stripes have the reputation of making you look wider than you truly are. However, according to a style report on TLC, “A perception expert at the University of York in the U.K. found that when two women of the same size wore horizontally and vertically striped dresses, the woman wearing the horizontal stripes appeared thinner. These experiments were based on the Helmholtz square illusion, first created in the eighteenth century, and suggest that horizontal stripes may help slim the figure by creating a 3D effect and introducing depth.”

Dresses, Dresses and More Dresses!

I love bows, tutus, tulle, heels, flowy silhouettes and everything else that sounds super girly. The only problem? I hate dresses. Well, let’s clarify: I hate wearing dresses but I love the idea of them. I’m the type of girl who literally wears jeans and a tee every day. It’s just comfortable and easy, which dresses, to me, are not. However, when I first saw the Torn by Ronny Kobo dresses that came in yesterday I instantly fell in love. (more…)

In My World it’s Better to be Sorry than Safe

Better safe than sorry? I’d rather take risks and live to tell the story. Although I do feel safer knowing that Spider-Man is protecting the streets here in NYC…

Spiderman You know when you do something stupid, intentionally, thinking it’s a brilliant idea at the time – only to turn around and realize how terrible of a decision it was. Take today for example. On the way to the gym, a good friend and I were about to go through the subway turnstile when she realized she forgot her card at home. So our brilliant minds decided to get close and go through as one person. So we swiped the card, pushed through and made it to the other side (success!)…right in front of two police officers…LOL! Turns out that’s illegal (who knew?) and it’s a $100 fine per person. Luckily they were nice enough to let us go with a warning, but in retrospect we probably should’ve checked to see that there weren’t cops around…or…errh…I mean we should’ve been good citizens and not have tried to cheat the system? Yea – that one.

This little incident had me thinking about all my style choices in the past that now, in retrospect, I realize were horribly misguided but made for great laughs. (more…)

Learn How To Create a Perfect Smokey Eye

One reason I envy every female celebrity is because they get to wake up to the talented hands of professional makeup artists. I, on the other hand, don’t have that wonderful luxury and, gosh, I wish I did. It’s really crazy how much a person can do with makeup and, more specifically, eyeshadow. You can use certain colors to make your eyes pop or glue on those crazy lashes, which I happen to be slightly scared of. I guess you can relate your eyelids to being like a blank canvas and you can create beautiful masterpiece! Ok that might have been a bit too dramatic but here’s a video from the talented Ashley on how to create a fab smokey eye!

Velvet isn't exactly the easiest fabric to pull off, in my opinion, but it's definitely a trend worth trying! Velvet can take an outfit from simple to sophisticated and chic. Here are some velvet pieces worth your considertation.

Personally, I have never been for or against velvet. Maybe because I've never come across the right piece? When we got in these beautiful velvet suits from Elizabeth and James, I instantly became a fan. The Velet Rex Blazer is a must-have to any wardrobe. I love the way the velvet texture looks when paired with a silk blouse and jeans. A velvet blazer is somewhat of a timeless piece that you can always style in different ways to keep it up-to-date. The Velvet Winnie Trouser may be a bit more difficult to pull off so if you can then go for it…and know that I am jealous. (more…)
