Hey Mom, Treat Yourself for Mother’s Day!

One of the toughest jobs in the world is to be a mother. It’s nice to have one day a year that’s guaranteed to appreciate all the hard work and effort mom’s everywhere have to deal with on a daily basis. It would be nice if there were two, three…or four days dedicated to it! But we’re just saying.

Obviously since it’s Mother’s Day you will receive gifts from your children saying how much they love you and that you are the best mom in the whole world. And while you may cherish and look forward to opening these precious gifts that may possibly get stowed away somewhere, eaten (you can’t resist those chocolates) or die (I’m talking about flowers!), you should treat yourself. Must-Have Items for When the Sun Starts Shining

We’ve gone through some roller coaster-style weather here in New York this past year. Rain storms, tons of snow, Hurricane Sandy and too many gray days left me begging for spring time. Our first couple weeks of spring wasn’t all that great honestly. It was kinda grey and chilly, but now the sun is shining and the flowers are starting to bloom lining the sidewalks with vibrant colors.

Now that warm spring weather is in full effect, I find the sleeves on my tops are slowly inching up towards my shoulders. And although I love wearing boots, I love when it comes time to ditch them for half the year and switch to flats and sandals. When I think of spring my mind goes straight to light-wash denim, slouchy tops and lightweight sweaters. On that note, here are a few of my must-have items that no wardrobe should be without! Rachel’s Radar: Distinguished by Denim

Denim has been an all time favorite from season to season. The big three denim brands used to be Levi’s, Lee and Wrangler. Now there are so many different and trendy brands such as J Brand, Rag & Bone/JEAN, Citizens of Humanity and Current/Elliott just to name a few.

Denim became popular with the youth in the 1950s as a symbol of teenage rebellion, in movies such as The Wild One. Jeans were not the “good girl good boy” style back in the day. Currently called jeans, earlier known as dungarees, are a staple in everyone’s wardrobe. (more…)

Style Cravings of Unique New Yorkers

I woke up this morning with the sun streaming in my window reviving my inner 70s bombshell wannabe (hello Brigitte Bardot) and a little of Carmen Sandiego’s catch-me-if-you-can mystery while trying to hide under the covers for some extra sleep. What better way to satisfy my style icon craving than with a floppy hat? The hat, might I add, is the ULTIMATE understated, attention grabbing accessory. Everyone always notices the girl in the hat before anyone else in the room. A Lovely Bird floppy hat is an excellent choice for a look similar to mine or a Civil Clothing snapback for those urban glamazon days.

I don't think a girl can own too many pairs of jeans. I have piles and piles in my closet and I have a really hard time parting with the ones that don't exactly fit me anymore. In my opinion each pair tells a different story, whether it be you wore them when you got your first kiss or they give you good luck. There are so many different stlyes from the way they fit to their wash/pattern or length. Here are a few pairs of jeans that are sure you get you noticed.

Since I'm a sucker for anything floral, I am totally in love with these Current/Elliott The Stiletto in black/wildflower. The way the flowers stand out against the black makes these irresistible. I also love the fact that the colors are perfect for fall since the flowers aren't bright colors. (more…)
