Parisian-born designer Jerome Dahan traveled to Los Angeles in 1981 where he discovered his talent for design. Dahan found his passion for denim while working with one of the pioneer brands in the United States – Guess Jeans. He was searching for something that he would be known for creating. Aiming high to create modern Levi’s Jerome came up with the idea that became Seven For All Mankind in 1999, a brand that would change the industry.
However, not having the right team at Seven For All Mankind, Jerome left and created a new brand in 2003 – Citizens of Humanity. In this new stimulating and fun atmosphere, he worked closely with a team of designers to create better denim that was both more comfortable to wear and more flattering in both styling and fit. And if that wasn’t enough, Citizens of Humanity created an organization called CITIZENSHIP where a portion of their proceeds go to charity.
Bringing in designer Noam Hanoch, the two were able to understand the direction to take that separates them from other premium denim brands. In 2007, Jerome also convinced his mentor, Adriano Goldschmeid, to combine their passion and creativity to bring together Goldsign and Citizens of Humanity. Dahan’s commitment to craftsmanship as well as quality translated into what he calls “super cool” for the customers. Citizens of Humanity brings inspiration and creativity from rebellious to sultry in each collection. Many celebrities like Emma Roberts, Karolina Kurkova, Alessandra Ambrosio, Leann Rimes, Rihanna and so on are infatuated with this brand.
Citizens of Humanity is so successful by not only creating flattering styles of jeans but also the team working endlessly to produce them. Dahan mentions, “I need to design more than a product. I can set a vision, but the true DNA of the company is made by those who participate day in and day out to make our product the best it can be. It’s not a lot of people, but it is those who remember that we are all Citizens of Humanity.”
