Leading designer denim label, MOTHER Denim collaborated with international super model, Candice Swanepoel on a capsule collection inspired by 90’s street style. The South African beauty directly referenced Cindy Crawford’s look from the famous Pepsi ad in which she sported a tight white tank tucked into a high waisted pair of frayed jean shorts.

Furthermore, the Victoria’s Secret Angel crowned each style with her family’s crest, a swimming swan, for an endearingly personal finishing touch.

Lastly, this collaboration helps to aid the prevention of the spreading of HIV from mothers to their children by partnering with the South African based organization, mothers2mothers. With portions of the proceeds going towards such a noble cause, this collection retains a soulful quality in addition to being fashionably nostalgic.

The 87th Academy Awards

5:27 PM

Is there any Hollywood event more exciting than the Oscars? Capping off an impressive awards season, the 87th Academy Awards saw waves of stars in twinkling gowns full of unique embellishments in predominantly neutral colors like pearly grey, soft taupe, and blushing nude. Occasional pops of red, black, and white broke the pattern as did a few other surprises. Take a look at these memorable Oscar styles, then click on the links to shop through celebrity and trend profiles!

SHADES OF GREY

Screen shot 2015-02-23 at 11.04.41 AM

Laura Dern: Reminiscent of modern day armor, this completely embellished gunmetal gown from Alberta Ferretti commands attention and flatters the “Wild” actress’s long and lean figure. The soft blowout and coordinating accessories compliment the styling, though the necklace is one note too many on this already heavily decorated piece.

Naomi Watts: Could her Armani dress have been any cooler?! The unique light-catching textile was cut into a sleek, modern design complete with a black bandeau element at the bust for a hint of sporty cool. A wavy lob, dark plum lip, and black accessories rounded out this excellent offering.

Reese Witherspoon: In the iciest tone of light grey, the Best Actress nominee stunned in sleek Tom Ford. The minimal approach highlighted Reese’s hourglass figure and classic good looks while the sharp black banding lent a modern, yet still classic voice to this dress. Softly waved, center parted hair, subtle makeup, and a few diamond baubles finished of yet another well executed style.

Screen shot 2015-02-23 at 11.06.06 AM

Felicity Jones: The first time Oscar nominee donned a custom Alexander McQueen featuring a pearl embellished bodice with a modified tribal-esque halter top which lead into a dramatic gathered skirt. The petite actress seems a tad overwhelmed by the voluminous design though the piece is striking and looks lovely against her creamy complexion and dark, swept up hair.

Anna Faris – Every inch the modern princess, the comedienne made us swoon in her Zuhair Murad strapless gown complete with metallic belt and warm platinum blowout. Simple accessories and a smoky eye helped to balance the sweet nature of this glittering confection.

Viola Davis – The light taupe color sings against the gifted actress’s dark skin but frankly, this Zac Posen gown doesn’t seem suited for someone with her strong personality and generally contemporary approach to red carpet dressing. The design seems to hide her muscular physique while the necklace is too long for that high off-the-shoulder neckline. Her makeup, however, is gorgeous and contrasts nicely against the hue of the dress.

NAVY IS THE NEW BLACK

Screen shot 2015-02-23 at 11.00.00 AM

Rita Ora – We can always rely on the British singer to bring some drama to any red carpet. Her fearless choices have led her to experiment with a variety of different styles though on this occasion, Rita opted for elegant Marchesa. Gold embellishments at the bust were lovely notes on this opulent dress featuring a mermaid hemline. Her newly cropped platinum cut was slicked to the side while classic makeup completed her look.

Sienna Miller – Another British beauty walked the red carpet last night, this time in Oscar de la Renta. The beautiful lacy texture and expertly placed black bows yielded a look that was glamorously prim. Sienna’s up-do, smoky eye, and elegant posture were all she needed to finish her styling.

Jamie Chung – With her movie being nominated for Best Animated Feature Film, the actress and style blogger selected Yanina Couture for her Oscars debut. The classic fit-and-flare cut rang as timelessly elegant while the nude underlay and shimmering starburst embroidery brought it into the modern era. Soft waves and beautiful makeup refined this newbie’s excellent first Oscar outing!

Jessica Chastain – Redheads have the unfair advantage of unintentionally enhancing a look with their strikingly colored tresses, and so it goes with the “Zero Dark Thirty” screen siren in this curve hugging Givenchy. A sparkling bodice was framed by a scooped neckline and nearly off-the-shoulder cut for a unique combination of structure and fluidity. Enviable coloring and curves aside, this dress appears to add bulk where it isn’t welcome and might have benefitted from a simpler bust-line. Shimmering brown eye makeup and a breathtaking diamond collar completed the somewhat underwhelming look.

RED AHEAD

Screen shot 2015-02-23 at 10.43.25 AM

Sophie Hunter – Newlywed Sophie came to support her Best Actor nominated husband, Benedict Cumberbatch and brilliantly dressed her baby bump in rich, red Lanvin. The one shoulder construction skimmed over her body and featured gold safety-pin-like details at the shoulder and sides for an unexpectedly risque touch! The thigh high slit and subtle flashes of skin were enough to make any fashion lover’s heart flutter but then she went and picked the perfect linear drop earrings to compliment her stellar offering. Did we mention the equally perfect gold sandals, clutch, & cuff? And her beautifully retro styled hair? Or her gorgeous red lip? We seriously can’t get enough!

Rosamund Pike – After an awards season of predominantly black or white looks, the English rose finally donned a lacy, strapless Givenchy number that truly swept us away. The feminine scalloped neckline was balanced by the thigh high front slit letting the “Gone Girl” actress show off one of her favorite features. Simple ankle strap heels, clean makeup, and a classic bun elevated this look to award show pro status.

Behati Prinsloo – The Victoria’s Secret Angel came on the arm of her handsome husband, Maroon 5’s Adam Levine. Wowing in Armani Privé, the lanky model showed off some superior accessorizing skills with her dark, glittering, bead necklace and coordinating dark studs. The unique red flecked tulle textile provided a new way to wear this award show favorite color and we couldn’t be more thankful for Behati bringing it to our attention.

Dakota Johnson – Resplendent in Saint Laurent, the daughter of Hollywood royalty and new household name after her “50 Shades of Grey” movie was released earlier this month, the young actress looked lovely and fresh. A modern peaked neckline and silvery detailing at the shoulder of this form fitting piece felt effortless and modern as did her expertly coiffed ponytail.

RIGHT IN WHITE

Screen shot 2015-02-23 at 10.54.23 AM

Marion Cotillard – Being the house’s muse, is it any surprise that the French actress wore Dior Haute Couture on Oscar night? In a white circular eyelet fabric whipped into a unique piece complete with a banded cascading back, Marion oozed contemporary quirky glamour. Her side swept hair, interesting curvilinear earrings, and matching black clutch made for ideal finishing touches.

Jenna Dewan Tatum – Channing Tatum’s better half donned a crisp white Zuhair Murad piece which sported a plunging neckline, metallic belt defining her tiny waist, and glitzy embroidery. A coral lip, breathtaking diamond earrings, and a metallic clutch provided the final flourishes.

Lady Gaga – Aglow from her recent engagement and present to perform a medley from “The Sound of Music” in honor of its 50th anniversary, Gaga went glam in custom Alaïa. The structured bodice and shimmering mosaic like fabric were striking elements on a surprisingly subdued dress for the singer who tends toward more costume like clothing. Nutty red gloves and a coordinating hair ornament ensured that the strangeness we little monsters love showed through.

Screen shot 2015-02-23 at 10.52.31 AM

Lupita Nyong’o – The Oscar winning actress took our breath away in this custom Calvin Klein by Francisco Costa dress completely encrusted in pearls. The texture and luminescent quality of the embellishment was heavenly against Lupita’s dark skin. Her drop earrings and, as always, skillfully done makeup couldn’t have resulted in a more superb look.

Nicole Kidman – The Aussie actress certainly takes risks every now and again but this Louis Vuitton strapless column dress just missed the mark. The silhouette is classic and highlights her statuesque figure but her pale skin against the iridescent sequin covered white dress, which reads more like a peculiar yellowish color, clashes terribly. The strange additions of the box clutch and silver ankle strap heels didn’t help matters though the red band at the waist was indeed a welcome and pleasant touch. Final say – Fine dress but needs a different fabric.

Julianne Moore – Another example of a red headed beauty increasing the impact of her dress by virtue of her coloring was Julianne in custom Chanel by Karl Lagerfeld. The paler the complexion the harder it is to wear white, however the winner for Best Actress floored us with the streamlined design of her sequined gown punctuated by black centered rosettes at the neckline, hips, and hem. Her beautiful warm smoky eye, berry lip, constellation-like earrings, and lovely swept back hair rounded out one of the actress’s best looks to date!

BLACK IS BACK

Screen shot 2015-02-23 at 10.47.07 AMCate Blanchett – As a presenter, the Aussie actress opted for a quieter look courtesy of John Galliano for Maison Margiela. With subtle frayed detailing at the edges and a large cutout at back, the fitted gown showed off Cate’s lean figure and provided an ideal canvas for bold accessories liker her Tiffany & Co. turquoise bib. We can’t deny that she looks beautiful but even though she wasn’t nominated for an Oscar this year, this dress needed more. Good but not great.

Patricia Arquette – With a draped one shoulder bodice and fitted black skirt, this two-tone dress from Rosetta Getty did nothing but favors for the Best Supporting Actress winner. Her shorter stature was elongated via the asymmetrical design and the fit was on point. A knee high slit, strappy black heels, matching box clutch, simple up-do, and bright coral lip  completed her classic look.

Meryl Streep – Never one to shy away from a good belt, the winningest of actresses opted for a belted Lanvin look made complete with a structured jacket and sparkling chandelier earrings. The ensemble certainly seems to be within her wheelhouse but there’s no pizzazz here. We wonder what this might have looked like without the jacket…

Margot Robbie – The Aussie stunner had a serious 70’s moment last night that we’re sure made Rachel Zoe’s heart melt. Her Saint Laurent gown had a retro sort of ease to it with its sheer sleeves and plunging draped neckline which formed a fitting backdrop for a jaw-dropping, sapphire tassel necklace. A sleek lob, lined eyes, and punchy matte red pout consummated this daring look.

BLUSHING NUDES

Screen shot 2015-02-23 at 11.13.55 AM

Oprah Winfrey – In what might be described as the frothiest latte color you could imagine, the talk show host and “Selma” actress amazed us in Vera Wang. Flattering panelling, gathering, and draping led to an incredible piece which owned an enduring elegance that we’ll be remembering for a while. Divine.

Jennifer Lopez – Considering she was merely presenting, the multi talented Ms. Lopez opted for a striking gown in a light caramel color by Zuhair Murad. On principle, we’re irritated with the fact that this is not the occasion to be showing off that gratuitous amount of cleavage; a standard the singer/actress ignored. On the bright side, the dress is indeed beautiful though perhaps a smidgen too close to the wearer’s skin tone.

Keira Knightley – It took her long enough but it appears that the British actress finally figured out how to dress that baby bump. In a floral and quote embroidered Valentino confection, Keira looked lovely in a charming woodland nymph inspired dress with an empire silhouette. Soft waves, a sparkling hair ornament, and natural makeup finished her excellent styling.

Screen shot 2015-02-23 at 11.12.46 AM

Jennifer Aniston – Somewhat reminiscent of Jessica Chastain’s Armani Prive 2013 Oscars dress, the “Cake” actress donned a gorgeous sculpted bustier gown from Versace. Curved seams wrapped around her body creating a languid effect while the fully beaded treatment made it just glitzy enough for the red carpet. Now, if she would kindly sweep her hair into a low bun we’d be even happier.

Zoe Saldana – Her new mommy glow was on full display last night as the “Guardians of the Galaxy” star showed off her curves in a custom Atelier Versace dress. Cleverly draped and fitted in all the right places, this piece suited the actress to a T showing off her olive skin while framing her beautiful diamond necklace. Zoe’s curly hair was swept back into a low chignon with a few bouncing tendrils softening her pretty-as-a-picture look.

Kerry Washington – With a fitted peplum bodice and beaded skirt, the actress selected Miu Miu for the evening but unfortunately fell a little short for us. The warm creamy color looked lovely against her darker skin but the skirt felt a tad matronly while the bodice didn’t have enough visible embroidery to elevate the look. Nice but a little ho hum… She had a magnificent makeup job though.

WARMING EFFECT

Screen shot 2015-02-23 at 11.15.37 AM

Gwyneth Paltrow – We couldn’t help but be a little torn upon seeing the consciously uncoupled star in this powder pink Ralph & Russo gown. We certainly approve of the color as it plays up her tan but that massive shoulder rosette would have been better served by a soft up-do and significantly smaller earrings. Her dark makeup also didn’t seem like the right fit for this surprising choice. Perhaps with a few tweaks this could’ve been a serious wow moment alas, this remains a prime example of how styling can rob a dress’s potential.

Anna Kendrick – We loved the unexpected color choice but boy, oh, boy was this custom Thakoon halter neck dress a letdown. The teeny actress often goes the ladylike route which suits her well but this offering was a bit of a snooze fest, reminding us of the prom dresses of yesteryear. The hair wasn’t a great success either but since there’s a lot of room for improvement, she can’t go elsewhere but up…

Jennifer Hudson – Sunny and bright in a streamlined Romona Keveza strapless gown, the singer and actress who won previously for her role in “Dreamgirls” looked cool and comfortable. The thin waist defining gold belt, green chandelier earrings, coral lip, and playful pixie cut capped off a wonderful display of red carpet style.

Emma Stone – Probably our favorite of the night, Emma shut it down in Elia Saab Haute Couture. The deep yellow gold embellishments on this backless gown looked magnificent against the radiant actress’s peachy skin tone and provided a unique contrast against her red waves, which were pinned up on this occasion. Matching ankle strap peep-toes and a refreshing coral lip made for a superlative award season finale outing. Bravo!

COOL DOWN

Screen shot 2015-02-23 at 11.16.38 AMScarlett Johansson – Undoubtedly the most daring look of the night goes to the new mom in her emerald green Versace gown. A plunging neckline was balanced by a glittering neck piece in varying shades of green bringing all the attention to the petite actress’s tiny waist. Angular panelling throughout added subtle structure to this revealing dress while Scarlett’s newly side shaved ‘do and mismatched ear cuffs lent a truly modern voice to this head turning piece. Brilliant.

Chrissy Teigen – Dutifully clinging to her husband’s side as he was nominated for Best Original Song, Chrissy looked otherworldly in this baby blue Zuhair Murad dress which featured a beaded bodice, plunging neckline, thigh high slit, and whimsical metallic belt. Her cascading waves, dark cherry pout, and fabulous chandelier earrings were the perfect accompaniments to this off-the-runway look.

Octavia Spencer – With a talent for both comedy and drama, Ms. Spencer looked equal parts relaxed and splendid in a sea-foam tinted off-the-shoulder Tadashi Shoji frock. The embroidered train and opulent matching earrings were lovely notes, however we might have lightened up on the gathering at the bust and sleeves so that it wouldn’t compete with the skirt so much. We also wish her makeup had been a bit lighter; perhaps a hint of blush to sweeten the overall effect. Otherwise, not too shabby.

And there you have it – Awards Season is over and done with so we’ll be returning to our regularly scheduled programming soon!

2015 Grammy Awards

1:11 PM

Unlike the majority of red carpet appointments that stars have to keep during awards season, the Grammy’s make for one wildly unexpected show. You never know how crazy, how naked, or how meaty (re: Lady Gaga) the looks will be! Read on to see our favorites and, perhaps, what few tweaks we might’ve made to perk up this rather subdued parade of styles.

BLACK

Sheerly Striking - Beyonce, Meghan Trainor, & Jessie J

Sheerly Striking – Beyonce, Meghan Trainor, & Jessie J

Beyonce – Proenza Schouler – A plunging neckline and sheer panels throughout gave this long sleeve dress an alluring sensibility while a smattering of diamond and emerald jewels rounded out this familiar look from Queen Bey. We wanted way more drama than what we got from she who was nominated for six awards.

Meghan Trainor – Galia Lahav – Welcome to the party Meghan! The “All About That Base” singer was all about that lace last night with her sheer skirted gown which also featured a lovely off the shoulder cut. Retro waves, a classic red lip, and an edgy black French mani were welcome finishing touches.

Jessie J – Ralph & Russo – We’re used to seeing this cheeky Brit in more daring red carpet styles but she does clean up nicely in her short sleeve couture gown. The sheer skirt and yoke help to modernize the silhouette while her side parted and slicked back hair combined with her vampy plum lip see the singer injecting her own taste into her impressive offering.

Modern Day Vixens - Nicki Minaj, Miley Cyrus, & Miranda Lambert

Modern Day Vixens – Nicki Minaj, Miley Cyrus, & Miranda Lambert

Nicki Minaj – Tom Ford – Feast your eyes on slinky Ms. Minaj in her plunging neckline gown which also featured an embellished fringe skirt for added drama. Side slicked tresses and sparkling jewels rounded out this unapologetically sexy look.

Miley Cyrus – Alexandre Vauthier – Frankly, this is a conservative dress for Miley, but you know what? She looks fantastic in it! The cutouts add interest while her clean makeup and minimal accessories bring a seldom, if ever seen, element of sophistication to the young singer’s fashion sense.

Miranda Lambert – Gabriela Cadena – One of our favorite country singers donned a sleek black dress with sparingly placed hot pink accents and cutouts for a look that was simultaneously feminine and modern. Lightly waved hair and a matching pink pout completed Miranda’s styling.

LBPs over LBDs - Gwen Stefani, Maddie Ziegler + Sia, & Anna Kendrick

LBPs over LBDs – Gwen Stefani, Maddie Ziegler + Sia, & Anna Kendrick

Gwen Stefani – Versace – The musician and TV personality was jaw-dropping in this fresh jumpsuit complete with structured bodice and sheer illusion paneling. The slouched legs, swept back hair, subtly detailed pumps, and toned down makeup resulted in one of our favorite looks of the night.

Maddie Ziegler + Sia – The reclusive Australian singer and her dancing muse, Maddie, hit us with a bit of necessary drama via their coordinating platinum blonde wigs and boyish suit styling. We’re loving this pared down yet bold presentation; especially Sia’s cape!

Anna Kendrick – Band of Outsiders – Tantalizing in a tux, Anna swapped her traditionally ladylike appearance for a seductive spin on menswear. Glossy waves, smoky makeup, and sparse accessories couldn’t have been more perfectly employed.

COLOR

Warmly Welcome - Gwyneth Paltrow, Rihanna, & Katharine McPhee

Warmly Welcome – Gwyneth Paltrow, Rihanna, & Katharine McPhee

Gwyneth Paltrow – Stella McCartney – Short, body-skimming, red, and sparkly is not a combination of details we’re used to seeing on Gwyneth but this dress is a rather good option for the event. Her iridescent gold heels sport coordinating red trim while her mussed tresses feel appropriately rock-and-roll. Altogether not bad but we’re not sure if this really suits her or her skin tone.

Rihanna – Giambattista Valli – Arguably the biggest shock of the night was Rihanna’s bubblegum pink loofah-like dress. We love that she changes her style up all the time so she’s never predictable but we’re not buying this pumped up princess piece. Her styling was on point, though, with diamond cluster earrings and an elegant knotted bun.

Katharine McPhee – Emilio Pucci – That color is splendid and the cut is daring but the fit is a little too tight and her accessories are questionable. There’s a good look in there somewhere but only after adjusting the fit, swapping the wet-look hair for a low bun, and opting for different earrings like simple studs or linear drops.

Coolly Clad - Zendaya, Taylor Swift, & Iggy Azalea

Coolly Clad – Zendaya, Taylor Swift, & Iggy Azalea

Zendaya – Vivienne Westwood – Prints are rare on the red carpet so to see this stylish fashion plate in a richly hued one makes us very happy. Saturated shades of camel, navy, magenta, and teal enliven this cool one shoulder dress while a dark lip and smoky eye feel wonderfully moody. Her generous selection of rings plus stud-and-earcuff combo are on trend but we cannot, and will not, get behind those clunky shoes.

Taylor Swift – Elie Saab – Hands down, the best look of the night goes to Taylor. Her usually prim appearance took a turn for the glamorous in this teal and blue ombré gown replete with unique details like a multi strap silhouette, large pleats, and slit peek-a-boo front hem. As if the dress wasn’t enough, her opalescent earrings, smoky blue makeup, and purple suede heels blew us out of the water.

Iggy Azalea – Giorgio Armani – Love the dress. Love the makeup. Hate the hair.

METALLIC

Sultry in Silver - Rita Ora, Katy Perry, Lady Gaga & Paris Hilton

Sultry in Silver – Rita Ora, Katy Perry, Lady Gaga, & Paris Hilton

Rita Ora – Prada – A walking disco ball isn’t a bad theme for a night like this but we’re not loving Rita’s oddly cropped hair and raccoon approved makeup. We also think that her dress, being so reflective and unfortunately in front of a white backdrop, hides her figure and, if anything, adds bulk. Not bad but not the most flattering choice.

Katy Perry – Zuhair Murad – Borrowing, perhaps, a little hair inspiration from Nicole Richie and Kelly Osbourne, the Superbowl songstress delighted in a seriously scooped back cocktail length dress dripping in white and silver sparkling fringe. Strappy heels and humongous chandelier earrings finished off this frosty confection.

Lady Gaga – Brandon Maxwell – Anybody else miss the days of Gaga’s high waisted latex skirts and hair bow adornments? This cheesy Vegas-ready look and her squished cleavage are doing nothing for us. Her contrasting green jewels are a nice thought but cannot salvage this disappointing dress.

Paris Hilton – Yousef Aljasmi – Perhaps as a move towards her budding career as a DJ, Paris attended the Grammy’s last night bringing her requisite Barbie doll aesthetic to the red carpet. We guess it could be worse but we’re getting a distinctly been-there-done-that vibe from this sparkly gown and her matchy-matchy accessories.

COUPLES EDITION

Doubles Dose - Chrissy Teigen + John Legend, Keith Urban + Nicole Kidman, Big Sean + Ariana Grande, & Kim Kardashian + Kanye West

Doubles Dose – Chrissy Teigen + John Legend, Keith Urban + Nicole Kidman, Big Sean + Ariana Grande, & Kim Kardashian + Kanye West

Chrissy Teigen + John Legend – Emilio Pucci – John Legend is a lucky guy. Chrissy brought out her A-game last night in a long sleeve white dress featuring curvilinear sheer  inserts at the bust and down the sides. Cascading honey colored waves and a geometric clutch made for ideal finishing touches.

Keith Urban + Nicole Kidman – Mugler – Nicole matched her husband’s all black ensemble in a not-quite-mini turtleneck dress covered in a symmetrical grommeted pattern. Strappy heels and a sleek lob enhanced the actress’s welcome change of pace.

Big Sean + Ariana Grande – Versace – With her olive complexion a white and silver dress makes a lot of sense, but Ariana’s choice seems like a simple white gown with a large piece of chainmail haphazardly slapped on. There’s nothing novel here but at least her hair and makeup are pretty.

Kim Kardashian + Kanye West – Jean Paul Gautier – In what might be described as a gold sequin robe, Kim swept onto the red carpet with her shorter ‘do and an expectedly low neckline. Metallic smoky eyes, simple heels, and a waist defining belt finished of her glowing presentation. Our only quibble is with the length of the sleeves; had they been a wee bit shorter it would’ve made a significant difference.

2015 SAG Awards

7:05 PM

Taking a few more risks than their Golden Globes offerings, the stars walked the red carpet in style at last night’s Screen Actor’s Guild Awards. Get a taste of some of our favorite looks then click the links to shop celebrity profiles and more!

PRINTS

Kelly Osbourne rocked her signature lavender mohawk which paired perfectly with her leopard printed Elisabetta Franchi dress featuring a demure half sleeve bodice. Lupita Nyong’o wowed in a breathtaking Elie Saab gown covered in a spliced painterly floral print with a banded waist and cornrowed updo. In her typically off-beat way, Rashida Jones donned an Emanuel Ungaro black and white dress with turquoise trim that while reading, perhaps, a little too daytime was still a pleasant surprise. Her bright red lip was a fresh finishing touch.

PRINTSesses - Kelly, Lupita, and Rashida

NEW NEUTRALS

Felicity Jones exemplified modern femininity in her blush tone Balenciaga dress sporting one of the night’s most popular details; a thick criss-cross bodice. Pearl and diamond drop earrings added just the right amount of glitz. Orange Is The New Black star, Kimiko Glenn floored us in her taupe Gemy Maalouf strapless gown made complete with a cascading ruffle of tulle. Her modern “lob”, smoky eyes, and on-trend accessories put her near the top of the list.

Naturals at Neutrals -Felicity & Kimiko

Jennifer Aniston was mesmerizing in a Vintage John Galliano metallic lace gown which she furnished with an exotic body-chain, her signature blow out, and fresh, beachy makeup. Sarah Hyland donned a Vera Wang dress with a gem encrusted bodice for a look that was as fun and youthful as it was fashion forward. Her deeply side parted bun nicely complimented her subtly smoked eye and glittering earrings. Emmy Rossum enjoyed the perks of Armani Privé’s undeniably bewitching aesthetic in this sparkling, strapless creation which produced a contemporary glamor becoming of the Shameless actress.

 BLACK AND WHITE DELIGHTS

Reese Witherspoon‘s bright white Giorgio Armani one shoulder column dress made the petite actress appear statuesque. The tonal white sequin detailing at the neck and cap sleeve added texture while her smoky brown eye makeup and deep berry lips provided a pleasant contrast. Paula Patton made a bold statement in a completely embellished Aiisha Ramadan gown furnished with hints of gold at the bust. Her unpredictable sea foam green earrings brought even more drama to one of the bigger sartorial surprises of the evening. She may be a teenager but Ariel Winter looked every part the bodacious babe in her ZAC Zac Posen dress. While perhaps a teeny bit too tight, the dress had an overall flattering effect on the young actress whose dark waves, coral earrings, and black clutch were the only flourishes she required.

Un-BRIDE-led Whites - Reese, Paula &, Ariel

Un-BRIDE-led Whites – Reese, Paula &, Ariel

Jumpsuit aficionado, Julia Roberts opted for a black version by Givenchy replete with tuxedo inspired detailing. Her enviable auburn waves and Art-Deco themed jewels seemed right up her alley but left us wanting a little more from her in the way of novelty. Emma Stone nailed it in her Christian Dior Couture menswear jacket and sheer skirt dress which she accessorized to a T with ankle strap heels, of-the-moment diamond ear cuffs, and a fire engine red lip. Julia Louis-Dreyfus modeled her fit figure in a curve hugging Monique Lhuillier design with a lacy bodice while soft, bouncy curls and lovely makeup finished her look.

BRIGHTS & JEWEL TONES

Uzo Aduba rocked the red carpet in a delightful yellow Angel Sanchez gown. The stark contrast between her dark skin and the sunny hue brought this amazing eyelet piece to life. Julianne Moore was magnificent in emerald green Givenchy Couture covered in a dancing beaded fringe for a shimmering effect that left us waiting with bated breath for her turn at the Oscars. Claire Danes attempted to make this mossy green Marc Jacobs halter gown sing but the slightly odd fit at the front turns out to be more of a distraction than an innovation. Her hair was nicely coiffed, though, and the dress certainly had some intriguing details like the embroidery at the sides. Had her makeup not been so harsh maybe this would have been more successful because we do sense a good idea or two in there.

Very Keen on Yellow & Green - Uzo, Julianne, & Claire

Very Keen on Yellow & Green – Uzo, Julianne, & Claire

Julianna Margulies was nearly excellent in this punchy blue dress from the whimsical Italian designer, Giambattista Valli. The skirt and bodice were a tad wrinkled but the rich pigment of the piece and her well curated accessories were a beautiful combination. If only those limp tendrils had been pinned back… Naomi Watts looked splendid in Balenciaga with a timeless off-the-shoulder neckline and form fitting silhouette. Side swept waves, a few baubles, and minaudière completed her styling. Amy Poehler found her sexy in this fantastic Jenny Packham dress which pronounced a return to form after her Golden Globes mishap. Beaded from top to bottom for a midnight sky effect and accented with a few diamond sparklers, the whole look made the comedienne look as sharp and beautiful as ever.

True Blue Beauties - Julianna, Naomi, & Amy

Camila Alves hung up her drab Golden Globes dress and instead made all the right moves in this deep purple Donna Karan Atelier dress with a sculpted bustier top. The dramatic side sash and her parted honey blond waves created an elegant, languid effect perfect for a trip down the red carpet. Keira Knightley dressed her growing baby bump in a tiered, lacy Erdem design with a few sheer panels and dainty ties at the shoulders. Beachy waves, a stylish ear cuff, and entrancing smoky eyes completed her gorgeous look.

Golden Globes 2015

1:35 PM

The first big award show is behind us so you know what that means – fashion criticism by the gallon. Skim through these looks from last night’s Golden Globes then click on the links to find celebrity approved looks and hot new styles to add to your closet!

WHITE:

Kate Hudson – Versace – Arguably one of the best of the night, Kate Hudson nailed this white hot look with its exquisite fit and flawless styling. The plunging neckline would suggest an excellent place for a necklace but Kate intelligently forwent one and allowed the crystal embroidery at the sides to provide a comparable effect. A few more diamond baubles, a white clutch, and low chignon finished this gorgeous look.

Kate-Hudson

Emily Blunt – Michael Kors – Many stars attempt the Greek Goddess look hoping to create an ethereal effect while still trying to inject their personal style into this award season standard. Emily wowed in a criss-cross bodice dress permitting peeks of skin at the shoulders and beneath the bust. Diamond and aquamarine sparklers added a hint of color and complimented the blue eyed beauty’s natural make-up.

Emily-Blunt

Julia Louis-Dreyfus – Narciso Rodriguez – Julia often chooses the Cuban-American’s streamlined designs and this flattering white number with an embellished bodice couldn’t be a better fit. Albeit a simple cut, the VEEP actress was practically glowing with her smoky eyes, relaxed hair, and gorgeous drop earrings.

Julia-Louis-Dreyfus

Salma Hayek – Alexander McQueen – White brocade with a silver chrome belt? Feather shaped diamond earrings and a floral hair clip? A bejeweled clutch and massive diamond pieces covering her hand? Salma oddly managed to pull this uber-accessorized look off though, perhaps, would have benefited from removing an addition or two to lighten the overall feel of this red carpet offering. Not bad at all, but not great.

Salma-Hayek

Kristen Wiig – Delphine Manivet – Her cute bob and fresh makeup couldn’t save the comedienne from this bland look. The off-the-shoulder element is spot on but the textile looks like a tablecloth and the uninspired accessories further deflate any effort the actress made to appear pretty and polished. Perhaps a swept back hair do, bold statement earrings, and a colored lip would have elevated this poor dress to something higher than ho hum resort-wear.

Kristen-Wiig-1

Rosamund Pike – Vera Wang Collection – Do we give the British actress a pass on the strange fit of the bust since she recently gave birth to her second child a month ago? Had her chest been properly contained her beautiful, strappy back Vera Wang dress could have been a stunner. At least her hair and makeup looked splendid.

Rosamund-Pike

Sienna Miller – Miu Miu – Ever the bohemian, the British beauty opted for a creamy look adorned with floral appliques and embroidery. She kept her look unfussy, yet feminine with a few diamond bracelets, chandelier earrings, a champagne satin clutch, natural makeup, and an expertly mussed bob.

Sienna-Miller

Jemima Kirke – Rosie Assoulin – A silvery crop top featuring a cape-like construction paired with a crisp white floor length skirt is not what we’ve come to expect from the British “Girls” actress. Her well styled ensemble could have benefited from either a bit of steaming or a touch more tailoring at the waist but otherwise, Jemima was a pleasant surprise. Her midi rings, shimmering stud earrings, and smoldering dark eye finished the look nicely.

golden-globes-092.nocrop.w1800.h1330.2x

Tina Fey – Antonio Berardi – We expected more from you Tina. Black & white is a classic combo and the beaded embellishments are a nice touch but the odd horizontal seam at the wide hem and unfortunately cropped cut ruin this dress. At least her black and white on-stage looks were better – especially her lady tux.

golden-globes-039.nocrop.w1800.h1330.2x

BLUE:

Keira Knightley – Chanel – She may be pregnant but we can’t abide by this terrible dress. The butterflies and feathers are an interesting pattern but that awful lace bib and matching tiered hemline affirm this piece as an utter frump-fest. From the neck up and wrists down she looks lovely though…

Keira-Knightley-Pregnant-Golden-Globes-2015

Amy Adams – Versace – Would you have guessed that this icy slate blue dress was from one of the gutsiest designers in the business? Yea, neither did we. The color is quite beautiful against the actress’s complexion but the silhouette and styling are too familiar and too standard for us to get behind this dull look.

Amy-Adams

Lana Del Rey – Vintage Travilla – Tragic. Barbie hair, unflattering accordion pleats, and a droopy bow do not an acceptable Golden Globes look make.

Lana-Del-Rey

Felicity Jones – Dior – “The Theory of Everything” actress swept onto the red carpet with the utmost of elegance sporting this jewel tone creation featuring a brilliantly tailored construction. A subtle smoky eye, side swept up-do, and eye-catching earrings completed Felicity’s impressive offering.

Felicity-Jones

Amy Poehler – Stella McCartney / Natasha Lyonne – Reem Acra – Much like her co-host, Amy’s worst dress was the one she wore during the arrivals portion of the evening. The bright cobalt color did little to relieve the drab look of this piece. Natasha’s dress was a scotch too tight and her face could have used a bit more color to balance her pale complexion against the strong hue.

Amy-Poehler-Natasha-Lyonne

Katherine Heigl – Zac Posen – Making a wonderful return to the red carpet after a long hiatus, Katherine was the epitome of understated glamor in a rich navy Zac Posen design sporting his signature construction skills throughout. Soft side swept curls, natural makeup, coordinating drop earrings, and a smattering of art deco diamond jewels upped her Old Hollywood lean.

Katherine-Heigl

Claire Danes – Valentino Couture – Infuriating. She owns a unique beauty, she’s intelligent & well spoken, an excellent actress, and is the star of a hit show. There is no excuse to leave your house in a poorly fitting piece of couture and sad hair. The colors are not altogether a bad choice but the terrible fit at the bust and that depressing hair-do negate whatever wonder she could have conjured in this uniquely embellished dress.

Claire-Danes

PINK & PURPLE:

Zosia Mamet – Andrew Gn – There’s something amok with Zosia’s bustier corset top dress. Maybe the colors are too similar to be paired together. Perhaps her indecisive hair color is throwing us off. Could it be the lukewarm styling? It’s all of the above that makes this boring dress both odd and forgettable.

Zosia-Mamet

Chrissy Teigen – Zuhair Murad – The wide neckline, scooped back, flattering color, and ornate beadwork result in a fantastic gown which collectively enhance the Sports Illustrated model’s exotic beauty. Furthermore, Chrissy balanced the somewhat matronly amount of coverage with a playful wavy pony and a subtly made up face. Simple gems completed her look.

Chrissy-Teigen

Camila Alves – Monique Lhuillier – The hair is too light, the dress is too simple, the makeup is too tame, and the styling is positively boring. We know she can do better.

Matthew-McConaughey-Camila-Alves

Anna Kendrick – Monique Lhuillier – Perfect. Anna’s blush tinted tulle gown lit up the Golden Globes red carpet with deep pink rectangular sequins catching the light in the most beautiful way and a thin matching belt nipping her in at the waist for a flattering shape. A few diamond rings and glittering pink drop earrings were a superb compliment to her clean hair and makeup. Definitely one of the night’s best.

Anna-Kendrick

Maggie Gyllenhaal – Miu Miu – Her pixie cut looks great and her makeup is pretty good but that wilted bust is doing Maggie no favors. A statement necklace or pair of spectacular earrings would have certainly enlivened this dreary look.

Jake-Gyllenhaal-Maggie-Gyllenhaal

Kerry Washington – Mary Katrantzou – The flattened bust and awkward side panels keep this dress from being one of Kerry’s better looks but the luminescent fabric and unexpected color are breathtaking against her skin. The shoes are confusing but her hair and makeup are to die for.

Kerry-Washington

Lupita Nyong’o – Giambattista Valli Haute Couture – After her tour de force during last year’s award season, Lupita is back in top form with her purple printed gown and, as always, enviable makeup job. The blossom covered bodice  fluttered when she walked while the rest of the dress created an airy effect fitting for the effervescent actress.

Lupita-Nyongo

Katie Holmes – Marchesa – You would think Marchesa would turn out a piece worthy of an awards show and not one that might be confused with a bridesmaid’s dress. Alas, that was not the case here. Katie’s unnaturally long side pony tail and uninspired styling, which included neither a necklace nor earrings , was one of the biggest letdowns of the evening.

Katie-Holmes

METALLIC:

Diane Kruger – Emilia Wickstead – Showing off her hourglass figure, Diane sashayed along her red carpet walk channeling classic glamor in a silvery confection complete with softly sculpted waves, shimmering makeup, subtle diamond jewelry, and a tiled clutch in a contrasting neutral palette.

Diane-Kruger

Reese Witherspoon – Calvin Klein Collection – She’s a beautiful woman in a beautiful dress but no new ground was broken here. For all the hype surrounding “Wild”, a punchier look seemed necessary but she served up classic Reese which is nothing short of well done.

Celebrities-Golden-Globes-Red-Carpet-2015

Jennifer Lopez – Zuhair Murad – She might be the only person in the world who could convincingly wear a caped dress featuring a plunging neckline, completely beaded  overlay, and thigh high front slit while adding even more visual stimulation via those huge chandelier earrings, over-highlighted pouffy hair, metallic manicure, and crystal encrusted clutch. If more really is more, then J.Lo wins.

Jennifer-Lopez

Kate Beckinsale – Elie Saab – There to present, Kate donned a beige gown with a totally embellished bust, deep V-neckline, and draped skirt. *Sigh* – Another vanilla look…

Kate-Beckinsale

Uzo Aduba – Randi Rahm – Orange may be the new black but Uzo has us thinking that a subtly multi-colored metallic might actually be the new black. The form fitting halter style dress looks wonderful on her while that deep bordeaux pout picks up the faint hints of burgundy in this beautiful piece. She’s been hitting a lot high notes lately so we’re excited to see where her style goes!

Uzo-Aduba

Jessica Chastain – Atelier Versace – The striking redheaded actress stole the scene in her deep bronze Versace number featuring a curve hugging silhouette, plunging V-neckline, and artfully gathered detail drawing all attention to her magnificent figure. Side swept waves, a warm smoky eye, linear diamond earrings, and a complimentary dark mani finished this sublime look.

Jessica-Chastain

Dakota Johnson – Chanel – Does silver count as one of the 50 Shades of Gray? Regardless – Dakota surprised us with her strapless sequined choice with its open front hem featuring a uniquely frayed edge. Other than her fun cocktail ring, she steered clear of any other big jewels relying instead on her cascading chestnut waves, mauve pink lip, lightly lined eyes, and silver chrome accessories to provide the finishing touches. Indeed an excellent effort from a newbie.

Dakota-Johnson

Julianna Moore – Custom Givenchy – Finally! An A-list celebrity who wasn’t afraid to demand your attention! Julianne blew away the competition with her custom made silver sequin dress in an ombré pattern accented with a playful feathery hemline in tonal grays and black. Her lightly waved hair was parted deeply on the side while a smattering of diamonds and a smoky eye completed this dramatic look. Without a doubt, one of the night’s top looks.

Julianne-Moore

BLACK:

Emma Stone – Lanvin – Not your standard beauty so she would never wear a standard dress. Emma brought her A-game with this refreshing jumpsuit featuring a high shine embellished bodice, waist sash tied into a floppy bow at her side, and well tailored black pants. Her wavy red chop, deep pink pout, and heavily smoked eyes were the only things she needed to establish herself as one of the most daring and put together starlets at this event.

Emma-Stone

Patricia Arquette – Custom Escada – Yes, it’s a little wrinkled but the bust & flourish at the shoulder are well crafted and her gold accessories play up her blonde hair while contrasting nicely with her black dress and red lip. Not bad, Patricia.

Patricia-Arquette

Melissa McCarthy – Own Design – Showing off her newly slimmed bod, Melissa was all smiles at the Golden Globes in a dress of her own creation featuring a black & white palette and tiered skirt. Her dark red lip matched her peep toe heels and the necktie was a quirky finish to this somewhat dowdy look. It’s not our favorite but she looks pretty darn cute!

Melissa-McCarthy

Jennifer Aniston – Saint Laurent – We know it’s black but you’ve got to give credit where credit’s due; Jen looks great. The cummerbund waist contrasts the shiny bust of this halter style dress while the slitted matte skirt allows for a tasteful peek of her leg. Her slicked back tresses were knotted into a large bun setting the stage for her bold black & gold earrings. It’s fairly standard for her but it feels updated so we can’t complain.

Jennifer-Aniston

Amal Alamuddin Clooney – Dior Haute Couture – There with her husband who was honored with the Cecil B. DeMille Award, Amal selected a black Dior number with a sash trailing from the shoulder and injected her personal style into the look via jaw-dropping chandelier earrings, white gloves, and a matching clutch. The hair needed to be off her shoulders to show off the only detail that makes this dress slightly interesting and had the gloves not been so large on her, perhaps they might have enhanced the overall regal effect she seems to be going for. Not our cup of tea.

golden-globes-066.nocrop.w1800.h1330.2x

Lorde – Narciso Rodriguez – Now this is cool. This stylish Kiwi shocked us with how polished she looked last night! Lorde’s crop top, high waisted pants, and boyish blazer provided the ideal backdrop for that unbelievable diamond collar and generous dose of sparkling rings. A deeply parted low ponytail, subtle smoky eye, and rich red lip finished off her well curated ensemble.

Lorde

RED:

Kate Mara – Miu Miu – The “House of Cards” actress disappointed this time around wearing a boring red dress with an unwelcome nude belt. Unnecessary ruffles at the front, straps of a strange width, and generally lackluster styling leave us wanting so much more from Kate. Don’t she and Rooney share the same genetic material? Where’s the risk? Where’s the fun?

golden-globes-042.nocrop.w1800.h1330.2x

Lena Dunham – Zac Posen – Dressing up for red carpet events is not Lena’s strong suit but we were relieved to see she didn’t arrive looking like a hot mess. Back to her original brunette locks, the “Girls” actress showed off an artfully smudged smoky eye and stylish red lip which complimented her crimson dress. The thoughtful seams, flattering hemline, and funky matching pumps blended her quirky style with the level of glamor expected at the Golden Globes. Pearly baubles completed the look.

Lena-Dunham

Allison Williams – Armani Privé – Stunning in color and construction, this dress is something to behold. Allison certainly came to play last night but her severe hair and makeup competed with the dress’s inherent drama. With a little bit of tweaking this could have been red carpet perfection.

Allison-Williams

Jessica Lange – J. Mendel – A structured silhouette in raspberry red brought out the wink in Jessica’s eye while her earth tone makeup and softly curled hair ensured an effortless feel. A thin black band at her waist accentuated her feminine figure.

Jessica-Lange

Taylor Schilling – Custom Ralph Lauren – Brilliant. This modern yet timeless dress found an ideal wearer in Taylor with her classic good looks and chic styling consisting of a sleek up do, barely there makeup save for a red lip, cocktail ring, and matching satin clutch. She can check her lady-in-red moment off the list!

Taylor-Schilling

Helen Mirren – Dolce & Gabbana – Best Accessory goes to Helen who, in an homage to the victims of the Charlie Hebdo attacks in Paris last week, donned a pin with a fountain pen. Her cherry red gown from Dolce & Gabbana featured an elegantly cutout neckline with sparkling gem embellishments around it. Large teardrop earrings and a matching clutch finished her dazzling look.

Helen-Mirren

Heidi Klum – Atelier Versace – Bright, tight, and a little much is exactly what we’ve come to expect from Heidi’s red carpet selections and last night’s was no different. Her hair looks great as does her makeup but we’d like to see the “Project Runway” host experiment a little and attempt a more contemporary mode of dress.

Heidi-Klum

Viola Davis – Donna Karan Atelier – Certainly one of the top picks of the night, Viola delighted in this juicy red strapless dress featuring tonal and silver embellishments down the sides of the bust. With her short soft curls, gorgeous makeup, and simple accessories, the actress was an example of modern day glamor!

Viola-Davis

YELLOW:

Naomi Watts – Gucci – The Aussie stunner showed up with husband Liev Schreiber and couldn’t have looked more radiant. Gracefully folded pleats at the bust and an embellished belt at the waist on this sunny yellow gown helped Naomi stand apart in a sea of red, black, white, and metallic dresses. A heavenly Bulgari snake necklace and bright red lip completed her exquisite red carper turn.

Naomi-Watts-Liev-Schreiber

Jenna Dewan-Tatum - Carolina Herrera – Light yellow was an unexpected choice for a January red carpet but Jenna looked every part the pastel princess in this frothy Carolina Herrera creation. Her shiny dark waves, large cluster earrings, and metallic clutch were the only things she needed to finish her clean styling. With Channing as your arm candy though, how bad can you actually look?

Channing-Tatum-Jenna-Dewan

Leslie Mann – Kaufmanfranco – Judd Apatow’s lovely wife also wore sunshine yellow to the Golden Globes showing off her lean figure and creating an overall statuesque effect. Her ombré hair was swept to one side while her bright red pout, green teardrop earrings, an matching box clutch added a few more hints of color to Leslie’s dreamy look.

WELL SUITED - Melissa McCarthy & Ariel Winter

WELL SUITED – Melissa McCarthy & Ariel Winter

Melissa McCarthy donned a navy suit of her own design accented with vertical black leather insets; colors which played up her creamy complexion and juicy red lip. Thick strap heels and a streamlined clutch finished her coordinated look.

Ariel Winter went for a long Smythe blazer styled as a dress, furnished with nothing more than simple black ankle strap sandals, minimal jewelry, and a whisper of color provided by her blue eyeshadow.

ICE ICE BABY - Anna Faris, Sarah Hyland, & Allison Janney

ICE ICE BABY – Anna Faris, Sarah Hyland, & Allison Janney

Anna Faris opted for a two-piece, ruffled Juan Carlos Obando ensemble in crisp white accessorized with nude ankle strap sandals and simple jewels, letting her pretty blond half-up ‘do provide the final feminine flourish.

Sarah Hyland sparkled in a Christian Siriano creation which she allowed to take center stage by keeping her accessories minimal in design, her neck & wrists bare, and her blown out hair down & parted.

Allison Janney, who co-hosted the event with her co-star Anna, dazzled in a low cut Ran Zakhem gown covered in silver sequins. Bouncy waves and a couple of matching accessories completed her head-turning look.

STRIKING IN SOLIDS - Beth Behrs, Kristen Bell, Ellen DeGeneres, & Portia De Rossi

STRIKING IN SOLIDS – Beth Behrs, Kristen Bell, Ellen DeGeneres, & Portia De Rossi

Beth Behrs brought old Hollywood glamor back to the red carpet with her lovely royal blue halter dress from Juan Carlos Obando highlighted by gold accessories and a matte fuchsia lip.

Kristen Bell was positively glowing after having given birth just 3 weeks ago to her second daughter, Delta. Perhaps as a shout out to her new little lady, she wore a bright pink Monique Lhuillier dress featuring pointed tulle tiers and a flared silhouette. Silver mirror stilettos made for a delightful finishing touch.

Ellen DeGeneres sported a creamy white suit of her own design made complete by a Saint Laurent button down, white lace-ups, and her signature pixie cut.

Not one to blend into the background, Portia De Rossi wore a bold cobalt Zuhair Murad jumpsuit with sheer panels throughout the bust creating a beautiful geometric effect. Her contemporary styling included a deeply parted, wavy hair do and nude patent pumps.

BLACK & WHITE & OH SO RIGHT - Stana Katic, Katharine McPhee, Kat Dennings, & Kaley Cuoco-Sweeting

BLACK & WHITE & OH SO RIGHT – Stana Katic, Katharine McPhee, Kat Dennings, & Kaley Cuoco-Sweeting

Stana Katic was breathtaking in a flower dotted Carolina Herrera confection with her swept back tresses and strong red lip perfectly complimenting her look.

Katharine McPhee showed off her enviable figure in a body-con dress from Balmain featuring a wrap around halter neck and cutouts at the bust. Her strappy heels, slicked back hairstyle, and dark red pout were thoughtful additions to this striking piece.

Kat Dennings was all about dark romanticism in her lacy Ludmila Corlateanu dress featuring a sheer yoke and peek-a-boo front hem putting her lace-up high heel sandals on display. Soft curls and a wine-stained lip finished her come hither offering.

Kaley Cuoco-Sweeting opted for a unique and sporty Peggy Hartanto cropped jumpsuit, made even more interesting by a double-V neckline and cutouts at the side.

Stay tuned for more 2015 red carpet moments!

2014 AMA Fashion

2:47 PM

The American Music Awards were in town and with the show came a slew of celebs in some head-turning fashion. Lots of solid colored pieces, bold cutouts, and geometric designs were among the red carpet offerings last night. Take a look and judge away!

Lucy Hale: This black Vera Wang mini dress with tonal black embroidery and other embellishments owned a dark modern aesthetic with a girlish lean. The actress and country singer injected more of her own personality into the style with her bordeaux lip, dark mani, smattering of silver & gunmetal jewels, and matching black accessories.

Lucy-Hale Jennifer Lopez: Her silky nude Reem Acra dress unsurprisingly left little to the imagination. Shamelessly sexy has been her go-to red carpet style for a long time and, while a bit tired at this point, the style certainly suits her. Anyone else getting a slight flashback to that navel-low cleavage bearing Versace dress from 2000?

Jennifer-Lopez

Selena Gomez: A backless black Armani Privé gown skimmed over the songstress’s body providing a sophisticated elegance we don’t regularly associate with her style. Heavy gold jewelry added just the right amount of drama to finish this fantastic look.

Selena-Gomez

Kate Beckinsale: Splendid in a white KaufmanFranco confection, the actress looked fresh and glamorous in her plunging neckline gown which also featured cutouts at the sides. Smoky eyes and a nude lip enhanced the contemporary feel of her dress while a breathtaking Bulgari snake necklace was a superlative finishing touch.

Kate-Beckinsale

Julianne Hough: A coral Zuhair Murad piece catapulted the dancer, actress, and country singer onto the best dressed list with its beaded pattern on a sheer panel for a dazzling necklace-like effect. Gold accessories and a simple slicked back ‘do perfectly finished this fiery look.

Julianne-Hough

Rita Ora: Bright and bold was the tone set by the British singer’s lemony yellow Zac Posen dress. Whether the dress was in need of steaming or the seaming was too abundant we cannot know, but there’s no denying that the color looks beautiful against her skin. A sculptural top knot, hint of yellow eye shadow, and trendy jewelry additions made this gown somewhat more appropriate for the setting than it was.

Rita-Ora

Gigi Hadid: Bringing a little borrowed-from-the-boys appeal to the red carpet, the model du jour stunned in a Prabal Gurung white suit with black and robin’s egg blue accents. Her exposed lace bra, dainty chain, beachy waves, and barely-there makeup completed the look which had an overall ease and understated sexiness.

Gigi-Hadid

Fergie: A black Halston Heritage halter style dress with gold plate details and a thigh high slit brought out a seemingly new side of the singer’s style. She stunned in a more subtle way than she normally does without skipping a beat in her usual edge by way of strappy heels, loads of rings, and her signature talons.

Fergie

Dianna Agron: Dark and romantic in a Marchesa cocktail dress, the Glee star’s textured black look featured an asymmetrical neckline with a subtle A-line skirt. Her mussed up hair was tamed by edgy black layered headbands while pewter tone jewels completed her mesmerizing take on red carpet style.

Dianna-Agron

Elizabeth Banks: The actress’s affinity for prints was put on display in her Peter Pilotto dress which featured pops of pink and orange punctuated by a metallic lace textile for a brilliant combination of color and texture. Her covetable earring and impressive full finger ring added the requisite edge we’ve come to expect from the woman who plays Effie Trinket, while her amazing shoes rang a perfect final note.

Elizabeth-Banks

Nicki Minaj: The rapper and singer brought some serious attitude to the event with her fit-and-flare Alexander Wang dress which featured a turtleneck cut, micro pleating, leather details, and gutsy cutouts. Her sleek lob, oversized silver baubles, and simple black pumps complimented her toned down and very welcome look.

Nicki-Minaj

Karlie Kloss & Taylor Swift: These two tall beauties looked more like sisters than besties with their mid-riff baring ensembles, wavy blond tresses, and subtly smoldering gazes. The striking model donned a two-piece Pamella Roland look in a metallic jacquard while her singing counterpart opted for a custom Michael Kors creation in a pretty shamrock green.

American-Music-Awards-2014-Red-Carpet-Dresses

Kendall Jenner, Khloe Kardashian, & Kylie Jenner: These girls, for the most part, brought their A game to the red carpet.

Kendall was the example of effortless beauty in a sheer monochromatic eyelet look from Yigal Azrouël finished off with a sleek center parted blow-out and minimal accessories.

Khloe rocked a Versus Versace mini dress with an asymmetrical hem and gold embellishment. Her ombre locks were nicely waved and enhanced her alluring smoky brown eye makeup while a heavy dose of metallic jewelry added to the dress’s understated edge. Bright orange nails were a fun final flourish.

Kylie unfortunately didn’t echo her sisters’ put togetherness, instead choosing a beautifully draped Alexandre Vauthier Couture gown which felt more boudoir than awards show. Her clashing shoes and shoulder strap baguette were distracting yet her jewelry did seem to compliment the dress’s relaxed silhouette. The final question mark came courtesy of her messily pinned back, teal tipped locks making her look as though she’d rolled out of bed and into someone else’s dress. The makeup was the only thing that was well matched to her overall look – even though those lips are outta control.

DESIGNER SPOTLIGHT – ALEXIS

1:39 PM

ALEXIS brand clothing is the eponymous line of mother/daughter duo, Ana & Alexis Barbara. These local Miami designers did not study fashion and so derive their understanding of pattern making through the processes of design and production, both of which are carried out in the US, maximizing their artistic control of their vision for the ALEXIS aesthetic.

This covetable line came about after Alexis took a seminal family trip to the Mediterranean and designed 15 pieces just for the excursion during which she received endless compliments. After numerous inquiries regarding where to purchase more pieces, Alexis knew she was on to something and debuted her first collection at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Swim in 2008. She and her mother have been expanding the brand ever since.

Perhaps due to the fact that these women did not formally study fashion and hence learn from experience, their clothing retains a similar quality in that you need to don the clothing in order to truly feel its magic. The flattering shapes tend to be body-skimming while the textiles are often monochromatic and full of texture with fringe or lace. Always feminine but never saccharine, this brand undoubtedly touches upon those things that women most wish to emulate; exquisite style and refined modernity.

Worn by the likes of Taylor Swift, Ashley Tisdale, and the Kardashians, ALEXIS is the brand you need for projecting a contemporary elegance. As Ana Barbara puts it: “The ideal customer is a young woman who likes to feel beautiful at all times. She doesn’t just want to feel glamorous at night or at an event. She wants to look it wherever she goes.”

Rosie & Paige

5:16 PM

Ah Rosie – She’s gorgeous, has an amazing modeling career, successfully broke into film, and is now the new face of Paige Premium Denim!

Rosie & Blue

Rosie & Blue

This new ambassador/brand matchup might not seem like the most obvious one but it should be known that Rosie Huntington-Whiteley‘s first modeling gig was for Levi’s jeans. You can’t get any truer or bluer than Levi’s, and so it was in a denim classic that the British beauty made her introduction to the fashion world. As she slowly gained notoriety she caught the attention of the big-wigs at Burberry and it was courtesy of them that she got her career-launching break as the new face of their fall line in 2008.

Now we move from the model to the designer; Paige Denim is the namesake line of designer Paige Adams-Geller, who herself started working as a model before endeavoring to create one of our favorite denim brands. As the founder and creative director, Adams-Geller strives to produce pieces you’ll wear from “morning to moonlight” and that will add a confidence to your stride… even if you’re not a 5’9″ super model.

Check out Paige Denim’s INDIO ZIP ULTRA SKINNY in Blue Galaxy Coating on none other than Rosie herself, then head here to pre-order your pair!

OOH LA LA - Lush Purple Lashes!

OOH LA LA – Lush Purple Lashes!

A lot of ladies claim that if stranded on a desert island and they had to pick but one cosmetic to have, mascara would be their beauty product of choice in order to maintain any semblance of looking cute upon their rescue.

Maybe I can MacGyver this mascara wand into a rescue signal...

Maybe I can MacGyver this mascara wand into a rescue signal…

Lashes have certainly benefited from recent technological advancements in beauty products and what was once reserved for costume dressing and super special occasions is now frequently incorporated into daily routines and regular maintenance. Between vibrating wands, mace shaped brushes (that’s the medieval weapon that looks like a spike-covered club… next to your eyeball), false lashes becoming more common than ever, and lash extensions being done as often as highlights, we have no excuse now for lackluster lashes.

In the same way that styling is partially an experiment, so is makeup application; trying a cream blush instead of a powder one, attempting to use liquid liner through endless trials and errors to perfect your cat-eye, picking out a new lip stain in a color you wouldn’t normally wear, etc… Well kids, it’s time for another experiment. Step away from your black and brown mascaras and pick up one in an unexpected subtle jewel-tone or a high impact bright. You’ll get the eye-opening effect you want but it’ll look fresh and fun! Take a look at these stars who’ve given the trend a go and reaped the stylish benefits:

Maxed Out – The Art of Maxi Dressing

12:01 PM

While many of us enjoy the routine we have every morning of washing, brushing, coiffing, painting, and dressing, we can certainly agree that the less time we spend primping the better. Enter the maxi dress.

Once you pick your style – solid or print / strapless or racerback / fitted or loose / minimal or bohemian / casual or dressy – all you have left to do is accessorize. Take Ms. Alba for example; she determined that she felt like adding a bit of edge to her daytime stroll and decided to take her graphic black & white printed dress into rocker territory with a cropped leather vest replete with silver hardware, a detail echoed in her modern jewelry.

Too much? Then take Minka Kelly’s approach with a simple black empire waist maxi that shows off your decolletage and a hint of leg through a sheer skirt. Comfortable black ballet flats, aviators, and understated jewelry keep the look pared down yet put together.

Ashley ventures well into the land of the bohemian with a tribal print, wide brim hat, and gladiator sandals. Easy, comfortable, & cute.

The ever fashionable Ms. Beckinsale also went for a strapless printed number but enhanced her ensemble with a dash of Rodeo Drive via her impressively large leather bag and gold statement jewelry.

So do you need more celeb references or can we start shopping? No? Dandy!

We’ve got a great assortment of maxi dresses and skirts that’ll suit your on-the-go lifestyle without sacrificing that which we all strive for – checking ourselves out in a full-length mirror and saying “Not too shabby.”

Maxi dresses retain the desirable quality of being both supremely easy to wear and transitioning seamlessly from day to night. Here are two of our favorite styles: Feel The Piece’s Trudy dress comes in a rich, moody, navy color with an intriguing ombré detail at the top and a modern racerback. Metallic jewels leap off of the dark background providing you an excellent canvas for experimentation with accessories. Joie’s Ruma maxi dress comes in a bright, but earthy ikat print influenced by Middle Eastern and Asian textiles. Setting off your tan perfectly, the varying oranges and browns look beautiful with gold chains and leather cuffs yielding a down-to-earth bohemian vibe.

Now, for your consideration I bring you maxi dresses that double as evening-wear for the laid back girl who’s got places to go and people to stun. These three dresses can be worn to any number of warm weather fêtes like destination weddings and rooftop cocktail parties. Each one of them has a fun detail or two like interesting straps, ornaments, or multi-way ties. These pieces blend elegance and a low key attitude for a look that’s fresh, venue-appropriate, and infused with a composed ease.

And to wrap this dress-fest up – we’ll throw in a maxi skirt that begs for a fitted cropped top. Pick up this Donna Mizani maxi circle skirt in black, white, or both! Wear it during the day with a simple tee or tank but don’t count it out for night time shindigs. A carved shoulder crop top complements this skirt in the most modern way and is a surprisingly chic choice for dressier occasions.

Now head to SINGER22.com and let your minis know that they’ve got company!
