Just a few things that get my heart pumping when I think about fashion week.  The 2011 Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week is just around the corner (Feb. 10-17th) and I could not be more excited to see what all of my favorite designers have in store.  If you are one of the hundreds of people who flock to New York to join the fashion cult, you're probably starting to think about what to wear.  After all, this is the highlight of our year.   Here are a few New York Fashion Week Staples that every fashionista should have in tow for her big debut.

1. Hot Hat – Selima Kate Hat

If you don't own a hat, now is the time to invest in one.  Celebrities like Jessica Szohr, Kim Kardashian, and Hilary Duff are fans of the trend and I can see why.  A great reason to not spend an hour messing with your hair, tossing on a hat at the last minute gives off a cool effortless vibe.  Just be sure to not go too floppy, you don't want to be a “fashion don't” for blocking someone's view of the show.

2. Statement Jewels – Low Luv x Erin Wasson

Chunky rings, layered bracelets and long necklaces are key to looking fabulous at fashion week.  Just think of Rachel Zoe and how she always has chunky, fun statement jewelry on.  You will want to add punch to your outfit and can easily do so with pieces from Belle Noel & Low Luv.

3. Paparazzi Shielding Shades – House of Harlow 1960 Sunglasses

There's a reason why Ana Wintour is always wearing her big black shades on the front row.  Not only do they scream chic, but they also give an incognito, mysterious edge to your ensemble.  But beware, if you dare to strut your sunglasses to a fashion week show: OWN the LOOK.  If you don't wear them with confidence you'll look like you're faking it and no one likes a poser.

4. All Black Everything – Paige Premium Denim Verdugo Jegging

When in doubt on what to wear: Bet on black.  All black is easy, versatile and always (and I mean always) in style.

5. Killer Instinct – Wren Faye Jacket

Step up your fashion game this week. Why? Because you can.  There will be stylista's from all around the globe who will appreciate the time and creativity you put into your outfit.  Trust your gut on your choices and don't be afraid to add a little fun to the mix.  Alexa Chung sported her leopard jacket with a polka dot dress.  Something I would have tried? Probably not. But she rocked it, killed it and has earned major respect in the fashion inudstry for taking chances.
