How to Dress When Flying South
Headed to a Caribbean or other warm weather destination to escape the winter chill? Lucky you! But just because you’re flying somewhere warm, doesn’t mean you can leave home for the airport in flip flops. When flying south, it’s smart to layer, layer, layer. Leave your big bulky North Face jacket at home and instead wear a cute patterned tank, layered with a thin, but warm cashmere cardi, layered with a cargo jacket, topped with a pashmina scarf. That way you’ll have not one but three options for toppers should your destination be unexpectedly cold—many islands and beaches are windy or cool down a bit at night. When it comes to bottoms, we always recommend white jeans for the plane—just be careful with your coffee if there’s turbulence! White jeans are warm enough for your departure day in Minneapolis, Philly, the North Pole, but are made for tropical isles. Now footwear? Wear your favorite plane travel shoes (we like cowboy boots, but if you plan to work out, you could wear your sneaks to save room in your suitcase), then stash a pair of flip flops or sandals in your carry on and swap them out before you deplane. Once you land, start shedding the layers and have a rum punch, margarita or Red Stripe for us!
