Bio: I opened the vintage couture boutique Decades in 1997 on Melrose Avenue. From the very first day, I often told a celebrity client or style-setter that she should consider wearing her latest collectible purchased from me with a pair of jeans. It was a 1960s Pucci print velvet jacket with a pair of jeans; or a 1970s Yves Saint Laurent silk bow-front blouse with a pair of jeans; or a 1980s sharp-shouldered Thierry Mugler jacket – always with a pair of jeans. The caveat was that I didn’t have any jeans to show my future fashion icon clients. Jeans had become an excuse; the easy-way-out, and had become so branded with logos or overly distressed and sloppy with distracting whiskers, holes, or unflattering washes that denim no longer enhanced your wardrobe. Something needed to be done. And that is how Decades Denim was born.
